I started folding at home on my computers. I tried to read up on it to help the best I can and it seems that I saw many people say CPU folding is kinda pointless. Currently I have 5 computers running it, but only 2 have GPUs.

My computer stats:

R7-2700X with 2080 gaming PC

R3-2200G with 1050TI office PC

I5-3470 garage computer, no GPU

I5-4200 laptop, no GPU

Dual CPU Opteron 6376 (16 cores each) server, no GPU

When I woke up this morning all 5 were idle, I read some articles that said they are having storage issues so I'm not too worried about that.

But it had me wondering should I take my CPU only machines off line and only run the 2 with GPUs?

Keep in mind you will want 1 CPU core free for every videocard in the system.

So you'll want at least a single core free on your 2700X and 2200G system.

CPU folding is 'pointless', in a sense that a videocard is much better in terms of points/watt. Videocards just fold for so much more points, so a CPU has to use more power for the same amount of points.

But if you can afford that (the power), there are some CPU only COVID WU's (projects 14328, 14329, 14530, 14531 to be specific) which need to be completed too.

Thanks for folding!

To maximize your ppd/w you could throw the 1050Ti in the 2700X system and only have one PC running.

As @minibois said though, CPU is good too

When they say pointless, they mean that you won't earn a lot of points doing it.

If you want to fold for the good of it, and not for profit, then any computer that can run the app is worth it.

Well, the "point" is that points are awarded somewhat proportionally to the usefulness of the task in the first place, so yes making more points help more... but still helping some as you can helps some.
