Hi

I'm about to upgrading my system and I was planning on keeping my old PSU from before but I started to worry that it might be a bit outdated?

My old one is an Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 720w which I've had since 2013.

And the upgrades I'm going for is.

-EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 8GB FTW3 ULTRA

-AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz

- B450 Tomahawk Max

- G.Skill Ripjaws V Black DDR4 3600MHz 2x8GB

My question is will my old one keep up with these specs or should I consider a new one?

No, PSU never outdated. As long as it's working normally, no need to replace.

It may degraded, but with that rating even 50% output still power that specs enough.

You can use a good quality psu up to 10 years.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

PSU's don't really become 'outdated' However, seeing that it's at least 7 years old and you're building a new system, I would buy a new quality PSU. You don't want to risk frying your new components with a well used PSU.

Forgot to add it in the OP but I bought it in 2013

Hello,

Kinda old to be honest, the warranty is over. From what I saw it has a lot of protection but "only" bronze efficiency. So I'd go with a gold rated unit like the Corsair RMx, TXm, RM, Phanteks AMP, Seasonic GX, GM or PX, EVGA G2.

With those specs, I'd get a new one, unless you trust your old PSU with your shiny new components. ;)

That PSU is at best 88.7% efficient, and while decent, it will have aged.

According to that article, it mostly uses Teapo caps for the secondary side. They're not the best, and rated for about 2000 hrs use. If you've used your PSU longer than 2000 Hrs, they become suspect.

It not to say it wouldn't work, but PSUs do age, and I think if you want something you trust, and with warranty incase it takes out any of your new stuff, I'd get something new, if you have the budget for it.
