Why is 2GB of my 8GB Ram being Reserved?

Why does it say that 2.1GB is reserved???

I need the extra RAM for VR? Do I need to upgrade my RAM aswell?

If you are running nothing, 2GB of RAM is used by OS Kernel if you are using Windows OS 7 or 7+

It's because your CPU has a GPU built in, that needs memory too:

I think you can change how much is reserved in Ryzen Master or your BIOS. Can't remember which.

Maybe you can simply turn off the iGPU in BIOS too? Since you're running a separate GPU

I’m on Windows 10.

and when I run ‘are you ready for valve index’ (just as a guideline) it says that only 6GB is in use?

it didn’t do that before?

Why is it a recent thing? It never happened before... I’ve never upgraded anything in my PC before?

As far as I know this has always been a thing with these CPU's. Well, I mean I know it's a thing on all Ryzen CPU's with built in graphics (including laptop CPU's).

Are you sure? Is 2GB reserved on your PC? There is not 2GB reserved on my PC. I don't have a CPU with built-in graphics, but still.

In Task Manager, Performance tab, how many charts labeled 'GPU' are there? Either it's one; your GTX 1050. Or it's two, the 1050 + VEGA Graphics.

If it's not related to the iGPU, it can be a failing RAM stick or bad connection on one of them.

If it was failing or had a bad connection, the system wouldn't detect it at all.

I've seen many cases of this exact thing happening.
