Is 1440p worth it?

Schmittez

So I going to be buying another monitor soon, I'm currenly using a single 23" 1080p LG IPS screen and am thinking and what I should get.

Im looking at getting:

Another 23" to match the current one. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=558_1212&products_id=23246

A 1080p 27". http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=558_1368&products_id=23310

Or a 1440p 27" monitor but I'm not sure I want to spend the extra on the 1440p. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=21516&cPath=1087

One of the monitors will be used for gaming while the other will be mainly web browsing.

I have a 3570k OC'ed @ 4.2 Ghz and a 7970 @ 1Ghz, so running 1440p games should be too much hassle.

Another option I am considering is wait till I have a bit more cash and get two more 23" 1080p monitors a 280x to crossfire with my 7970 and a 1000W PSU as I currently only have a 650W.

Main want to know weather a 1440p monitor is worth the extra money or if triple 1080p is a better option.

1440p costs the difference between 1080p, you're paying for the difference.

Usually 1440p IPS is 27 inch, most 1080p 27 inch ips monitors are anywhere from 200-300$ and most 1440p cost anywhere from 450-600$ in the US.

1440p has 1.7778x more pixels than 1080p, so 300*1.7778=  533$

In your case it's 360*1.7778 = 640$

So the 1440p is a good choice.

I recently made the switch from 3x1080p 144hz monitors to 1 1440p, soon to get another.   I love it, it's such a high quality monitor, I don't regret it at all.  I got a great deal on it too, 460$ with shipping refurbished, and it's in perfect condition.

I really love the color+ extra details, I may someday bump up to 4k just because the upgrade experience has been so great.

I personally think at 27 inch anything below 1440p looks awful.

1440p is nice but personally, Id get a cheaper 4k monitor if you just care about the resolution. 4K Prices are dropping drastically so i'd wait for a 4k at a similar price of what you're looking at.

But if colour accuracy is important, get a nice 1440p.

As you can also just play games in 1440p.

System: 5930K, MSI X99 SLI PLUS, GTX 780Ti (SLI),  840 EVO, Fractal R4 (Full Custom Loop)  (IP)

This

Mismatching monitors bug the crap out of me in multi-monitor setups (just my OCD opinion, of course :P) .

I would lean more towards 2x1440p 'cause moar pixels but you sound kinda set on 3x1080p and you're already 33% of the way there

I'd wait.. 1440p prices are about to get down even more because there are more and more 4K monitors are coming.

also, you can get a korean 1440p IPS monitor for about $300.

I wouldn't recommend any larger than 24" for a 1080p monitor because in 27" 1080p is just too low density

So, if you can't wait. go with a korean 1440p monitor, or a 24" 1080p if you want to save some money

I'd probably wait a little until 4K monitors become more mainstream. We've already got a $700 28" 4K monitor coming from Dell, and a similar offering from Asus. It's only a matter of time before they drop in price. Personally, I'm waiting for 4K G-Sync monitors to come out, and also for more software to support 4K. I feel that GPU power has come far enough, as two 780's will play battlefield 4 @ 30fps at 4K. I'd save up, we're at the point just before new graphics cards are coming out. I'd save the money on the monitors and upgrade your GPU for a more "4K ready" model. I plan on doing the same.

For ,24", 1080p is just fine, however if you go above 24" you should definitely consider a monitor with higher resolution than 1080p, because the image will looks so much better.
