Hello all!

Last summer in September I built my first PC its been fantastic except for one thing. The PSU (EVGA 750 BQ) is ALWAYS making a droning sound even at idle. And once a game get started this thing starts to sound like a jet engine. Even at idle you can hear it from a quite a few feet away. Now its had no problems other then that. But good lord the droning is driving me a little nuts and I finally just want to buy a new one if this is not normal. Is this kind noise normal for a PSU? I just find it strange when my loudest PC component is by far my power-supply.

It's double-forward topology which is known to whine with high power draw GPUs, it's also rather low-tier PSU to start with. Coil whine by itself doesn't pose any danger but i wouldn't pair this PSU with RX5700 XT anyway. If you want to pick smth new look at the PSU tier list pinned in this section. I'd probably recommend Bitfenix Formula Gold if you ask me, it's very quiet and has very good performance.

This is normal for your power supply. It is known for being loud.

Cybenetics testing shows it in excess of 40dBA at low loads reaching 45dBA under medium to high loads.

(Scroll through the list and download the report for the EVGA BQ 750W) https://www.cybenetics.com/index.php?option=database&params=1,0,36

If you want to replace it then I recommend looking at a good quality unit that is known and tested for being quiet. Something like a Corsair RMx or Be Quiet Straight Power. If there's other power supplies you're considering then check reviews or Cybenetics for noise reports.

Does the power-supply linked support the two eight pin connectors you need to plug into the Red Devil for power?
