Did I do okay for my first step into pc gaming?

Chris.G

ASRock B450M Pro 4 mb

Amd A6-3500 cpu

G.Skill Ripjaws V-series 2X8 G ram

EVGA 500W 80+ White power supply

Seagate barracuda 1tb hard drive

Thermaltake versa h21 case

A couple kingwin 120mm case fans

Arctic silver thermal paste

For now, I want mostly just want to play modded Fallout and Elder Scrolls games, classic Doom with mods, maybe various retro rpg like Diablo and balders gate style games and some emulating. A stable 30fps-1080 is fine for now. I'm not going to be too picky if I'm only playing single player and retro games.

I know, I should have asked before pulling the trigger if everything would work together and provide decent performance. But its too late now. So how did I do?

While true I suggest getting an am4 cpu rather than an fm1 socket motherboard.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Do yourself a favor and buy an Athlon 200GE, unless your motherboard has a "Ryzen 3rd gen" compatible sticker on it, then get a 3000G

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

I got everything on the op, but just canceled the cpu and got the 3000g. The mb is compatible with ryzen according to the newegg info on it.

It has to be compatible with Ryzen, but is it compatible with third gen ryzen?

That is a terrible way to spend $455. Bit late anyway as the op has already bought the parts he listed.

So you suggest that he should spend another $455 and get rid of everything he already bought instead of using it? At least read through the comments and try to answer the question or problem at hand.

This build isn't the greatest anyways.

  • 2 weeks later...

I ended up at 360 and change for everything I bought. I saved a few more dollars after returning the hdd for a lower capacity, slightly cheaper ssd.  The 3000g was also a little cheaper than the incompatible one I originally got.0309202235.thumb.jpg.2dcdb96fe9be4b9bfe42fbc46dc7f810.jpg

Its almost done. Just need my ssd. If anybody has some cable management tips lmk. That 4+4 power cable and the front intake fan wires are bugging me.

Cable management looks fine to me.  They make a big deal about it on videos but it’s really mostly about making sure it doesn’t impede airflow.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.
