LGA1366 backplate socket holder + aftermarket cooling

alexdpars

I recently bought an Asus motherboard Z8NA D6 a dual socket xeon board and 2 cooler master 212 evo for cooling. I wasn't aware that theses board were coming with a backplate aleready mounted which mena that I couldn't install the coolers. I've been able to remove the backplate by removing the 4 screws on the picture.

However theses screws as you can imagine were holding the "cpu holder" in place. I found out that the thread was the same as a radiator mount so I replaced the backplate by 4 screws (which I had to cut and buff to make it fit). I've been able to mount everything together. However two ram slot are not working I am not sure if this was caused by my modification/minupulations of the board even if i've been cautious I may have done a mistake putting this together or if it is DOA. I am thinking about replacing the board since I am happy with the system performance. But I want to find a straight forward solution to the backplate issue. I love the 212 evo cooler, it perform really well. Do you guys think that I could find some kind of standard backplate from a mainstream board that could fit ? Or should I go with a stock cooler ?

All suggestions are welcome.

That might be true however I can't prove it and in my process I tried to cut the original backplate which didn't work out due to my lack of skills using the cut off wheel

Go with a stock cooler... Why make a full time job out of something easy?

I know but I really love the aftermarket ones. And I aleready have them...

So you will never know then if your modification is the cause or if the mobo came like that.

It's possible this is causing uneven pressure on the processor. Some of the pads that control those channels may not be making proper contact. Try replacing the old screws and use a stock cooler. See of the channels come back. If they do then you know you just need to change how you mount the cooler and no hard was done.

I feel stupid but I tried to cut the original ones... didn't wok well but I get what you are saying... However can't try it ... I think I'll need to find a backplate before doing anything else and try them on my "broken board"

Socket LGA1366. If you search local or online you might be able to find replacement backplate/lock mechanisms for cheap or free. Find a local computer shop they might have a dead 1366 board they'll let you take the bracket off of.
