hello so I have a old cpu and apparently I'm missing sse4.1 or something among the lines and need a new cpu. my budget is as cheap as possible I don't need anything fancy. the games I want to play but can't are Apex legends division 2 and the new cod. the new cpu doesn't need to be recently released as long as I won't loose performance it would be great and even better if I gain performance. my specs are

CPU: AMD phenom II 1090t

MOBO: M488TD-V EVO/USB3

PSU: 800w PSU kinda old will upgrade

GPU: gtx 1050 ti

Ram: ddr3 12gb

i5 2400/3450/3470 with LGA1155 board is probably as cheap as it gets in terms of playing the game, you're most likely bottlenecked by the GPU either way

If you want to keep that RAM, you will most likely need to buy use parts. If you want something new you will need to make the jump to DDR4, which I think would be a better investment overall. Then you can go with an i3 or a Ryzen 3 with a cheap AM4 motherboard. The advantage is that you will be able to upgrade more easily in the future than if you buy some old used parts.

Or buy still used a first gen ryzen as a combo of cpu mobo and ram, maybe you can get a steal

if you were interested in gaining an upgrade path, a Ryzen 3 1200 and cheap B350 motherboard off eBay would be the smart move. 8GB of cheap DDR4 is not hard to find either,

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

If you can give us a more precise budget, we can help you narrow it down more. The games you listed are all new modern games that require a bit more oomph to run, especially The Division 2, in my opinion doing as @Fasauceome recommended would be your best option, you not only get a much better processor on a modern platform but also the upgrade ability is second to none with AM4.

Main Desktop: CPU - i9-14900k | Mobo - Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | GPU - PNY Gaming OC RTX 5080 16GB RAM - Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 64GB 6400mhz | AIO - Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360mm | PSU - Corsair RM1000X | Case - Hyte Y40 - White | Storage - Samsung 980 Pro 1TB Nvme /  Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus 4TB Nvme / Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB Nvme / Samsung 870 EVO 4TB SSD / Samsung 870 QVO 2TB SSD/ Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SSD|

TV Streaming PC: Intel Nuc CPU - i7 13th Gen | RAM - 16GB DDR4 3200mhz | Storage - Crucial P3 Plus 1TB Nvme |

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra - Black 256GB |

thanks for the response I'll most likely go with that because the upgrade options are there too I have never used eBay before always thought it was sketchy what should I stay away from on there?

eBay has buyer protections, if you get scammed you have great options to get your money back. Avoid motherboards from China and motherboards without back plates or I/o shields (make sure to read the listing description)
