High resolution or High Refresh Rate? ?

For gaming, especially competitive gaming, higher refresh is better.

Also generally speaking those that run 120hz+ for any length of time find it difficult to put up with going back down to 60hz, so u probably wouldnt like it.

IMO the upgrade path from 144hz 1440p is 120hz 4k, and thats particularly hard to drive with current hardware. Not ot mention there are few 120hz 4k panels available. At least until later this yea when Lg release their 48" CX OLED, at which point that will be the go to display for 120hz 4k gaming.

Ah ok so 4K 60hz isn’t really worth upgrading?

Do you know if my setup could handle 4K 120hz? I have an 8700K & 2080 Ti (both overclocked) which is pretty high end hardware. The only real “upgrade” I could do would be adding another 2080 Ti but that seems kind of ridiculous. :/ Plus they’re so dang expensive.

In the majority of games i would say yes ur system could handle it, but not all.

However, if ur considering that CX 48" , do understand that ull need a new GPU to run 120hz 4k on it as it requires HDMI 2.1 ..current hardware , even the 2080ti, does not have HDMI 2.1. This years upcoming GPUs 'should' have HDMI 2.1 however.

In the event u would buy a CX 48" , u'd also be buying a new GPU so u could get a stronger GPU than a single 2080ti anyway to further ensure u have the GPU power to run 120hz 4k.

Its an expensive move however. The CX 48" is likely to be anywhere from £800 to £1500.

While current 55" OLEDs start around £1000-£1200, u cant trust a manufacturer to not just move their line-up up in price to accommodate the smaller size, instead of just charging less for the smaller size.

In addition u'd be buying a new GPU on top, and Nvidia ,if u stick with them, has proven with the 20 series that they are fine with moving pricing up a tier for no reason other than "money", hence why the 2080ti was/is so damn expensive.

Long story short u could end up spending anywhere from £1600 to £2200 on a single GPU + Display.

it is a move however that i'll personally be making myself ..so ...food for thought.

I actually already do have a 1440p high refresh rate monitor (144 hz)

I wouldn’t buy the 4K 60hz moniter because you already have the 1440p 144hz one and there’s no point in wasting money when you already have a good monitor. I also prefer the smoother buttery 144hz and feel it’s more important and makes up for the quality.

Ah ok thanks! That’s what I was trying to ask is if going from 1440p 144hz to 4K 60hz is really an upgrade or more like an equal or inferior performing monitor to mine.

I also love 1440p 144hz and how smooth it is. I seem to be able to get 144fps with maxed out settings in recent AAA games like the Resident Evil 2 remake and it’s pretty sweet.
