Stranded offline

So, i have just a while ago downloaded a different realtek ethernet driver. However, it seems this one doesnt work. I have tried rebooting, using the troubleshooting tool, resetting my connections but nothing works. I have also tried an old WiFi adapter but its software doesnt support Windows 10. USB tethering doesnt work either. What do i do? I want to use driver booster but im so far not succeeding at connecting my computer.

Download the one specifically for your computer. You're probably gonna need a different computer to download it if you can't use the internet on the current one, and a flash drive to transfer over the drivers.

You need to quote people or they won't know you replied.

 

If it's a custom PC, find out the motherboard model, and it's on their website.

If it's a prebuilt, find the model number and go to the companies website.

That is interesting, as that is exactly where i got the driver from, which broke everything. My MOBO is a MSI Z97 PC mate.

Is that the one you installed though?

Might be worth installing the chipset drivers as well.

that is the exact one i installed. I have also installed all the other drivers on the website, including Chip set drivers.

Other than that, Windows says error code 56 in device manager>Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller. I also seem to be unable to install any drivers, as it apparently "times out" and reverts the changes

and lastly, windows's connection troubleshooter tells me that "Adapter Ethernet 2 doesnt have a valid IP protocol."

Solved. I had to reinstall Windows. I have tried many solutions, but after trying to take out and put back in the CMOS battery, i kept getting a pretty much unfixable CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED BSOD. Installing windows was also painful, because i didnt wanna lose my data. After lots of struggles i found out the pen drive had to be in boot order #1 or else it would give me a MBR file system error. Thanks for trying to help me, though. Everything works fine now. Also, im never touching realtek drivers again. never. ever.

Ahhh good. That was going to be my next suggestion but most people don't like the idea of doing that.

Networking can be a huge pain in the ass. For months I had an issue with my wired connection, so I switched to a Wireless N adapter I had kicking around and it worked fine, except for weekends when there's more interference...at which times I couldn't use it at all, so I'd go back to wired, which meant I couldn't game. Bought a Wireless AC adapter, it's significantly faster...however it still disconnects randomly. *shrug*

 

I can't wait to get a proper router and a WiFi AX set up, but that won't be until the fall in time for CyberPunk.

Probably better off waiting for WiFi6e, as plain WiFi 6 wont work any better than AC if the problem you're having is crosstalk.

Crosstalk was only a problem with the wireless N adapter, hasn't been an issue with the AC. Wifi AX is supposed to have significantly reduced latency.

Current batch of routers/APs AFAIK do NOT support any of the features that bring those improvements.  AX won't even be finalised until the end of the year and manufacturers are conning people by not advertising these facts.

I believe Asus has at least one, as do a few other companies. The RTAX88U, Netgear has the AX line, and TPLink has some in the Archer line.

The issue is more the adapter than the router. I've only found a few AX adapters, and they don't quite reach the speeds of the router...though they're still an improvement.

Read the SNB link, a lot of manufacturers are claiming to support features that in fact are not enabled in the firmware and may never be because this hardware is not guaranteed to be compliant with the final specification.
