Posted February 10, 2020 So I've been searching all over the internet with no answer so far... Thinking I might give this a shot. About a month ago I've made my first PC build which turned out pretty good so far, except for the fact that the microphone input, be it plugged in on the front of the case or directly into the mobo, picks up everything I play back on the headphone jack, on the front of the case. If it helps, here's my spec list: Updating drivers from Realtek wasn't a succes either, I'm thinking it has to do with my motherboard. Any suggestions before I try returning it? Make sure you've installed the Realtek software, because it should do something like "what did you plug in?" when plugged in and switch the port. It's also possible that your front-jack audio might be wired wrong. The front audio connector is a keyed-10 pin connector, and many front panel's are wired as individual pins rather than one solid block. So it should be, pin 1 and 3 are left and right microphone, pin 5 and 9 are left and right headphones. pin 6 is sense for the microphone and pin 10 is sense for the headphones. If it's not been keyed properly and flipped upside down, the microphone ends up being wired to the headset left channel.
 I've checked this and my case has got a solid block connector, which couldn't have been plugged in wrong since it won't allow it to be plugged in the wrong way. I do also hear what's being played back on the headphone, so it's both playing back on it and recording on it at the same time.
 There are 6 different ways for a headset to be wired, but only one way for headphones. Does it do it with regular stereo headphones plugged into the rear and the front, or only one of them? I use my earphones (the one with the 4 pins on the connector) and a splitter with a green plug and a pink one, for headphones and mic respectively. However I eliminated the possibility of this being the issue as I tried it with an old headset that has the two plugs 'built-in' to the cable, ending me up with the same result. Posted February 12, 2020 So even if you don't have a mic plugged into the pink mic port (front or back) it's still recording your desktop audio? And this only happens when using the headphone jack on the front of the case, not the green speaker output on the back? This is not an issue I've encountered before, my guess would be that your Realtek driver has some sort of option for looping your output into your input. Do you have some sort of Realtek audio control panel installed, if so, could you post a few screenshots of how it's currently configured? I I'd think it'd give you two Mic options, all seems weird, I'd guess a faulty front panel before I guessed a faulty motherboard. I removed the Realtek drivers and reinstalled it with the installer from their site. Now the app which I made the screenshots in doesnt recognize this driver and will no longer function, and I cannot 'split' the green jacks and the pink jacks. If I plug in my headphones, it will only play from the headphones, if I take it out but leave my speakers in the rear green jack, it plays from my speakers. Alright, I somehow managed to get the audio driver from Realtek's site succesfully installed. However, the Realtek Audio Console (the one I made the screenshots of) wouldn't work with the driver, so I could not split the audio-out lines into two seperate ones. This means if I had my speakers plugged in the back it would send audio out there, and if I wanted to get it on my headphones I just had to plug them in, and it would play on there and not on the speakerset. I could not change this, as I had no interface, so I updated the driver in Device Manager, giving me the exact driver I had first. Back to square 0. I didn't check whether the playback issue I originally came here for happened with the other driver, from Realtek's site occured aswell, and now I can't manage to install it again because I don't remember the exact steps I took to do so. I'm going off to bed now and I'll look into this more tomorrow. Thanks for your help and patience.
 If I've been understanding OP correctly this would be the opposite of the issue he's having. The problem is that his headset is bleeding into his mic input, not that his mic input is bleeding into his headset. Basically if he were in a Discord call with someone they'd hear his voice and his system volume. I've seen a few cases of the headphone audio bleeding into the mic cable via crosstalk. Not much one can do if that is the issue except replace finnicky fragile cables.
