Hello guys,

I am trying to build a multi-room PC setup that will have the Desktop in the living room while having a full peripheral multi-monitor setup in another room. This setup if realistic would run over the network and then have a full windows experience.

For example, I want to have these things as shown below

  • Desktop in living room for VR setup as to avoid having to run fiber cables to satisfy the requirements of the high bandwidth usb 3.0 and 3.1
  • Over the network peripheral setup to different room in house, mouse, keyboard, dual-monitor setup
  • Full windows experience for two monitors unlike SteamLink where you can only run one monitor and one game at a time.
  • Low latency from PC to separate room
  • Prefer no cable runs if possible, want to be able to run over the network as stated earlier

I know that this might not be viable and worth it as you may only save space vs saving money.

if you're willing to make a single cable run, what about using a thunderbolt port to move all the necessary ports into the second room?

The thing is, we already have cable runs setup for Ethernet which i believe if cat5e. Is it possible to do this over the LAN? Also the cable runs would end up being in a very difficult place to run the cables and thus I want to avoid this option if possible.

I understand that I could also do many different things but I just want to know if it is possible to do this over the LAN and if it is viable either direction. Having the VR over the LAN (This is the ideal setup if possible) or having the main Desktop over the LAN.

You can do video over lan for sure, no idea if it would be good enough for gaming tho..

Something like this.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-Gigabit-Ethernet-Receiver-ST12MHDLAN/dp/B00CLMN8HW

And I think you can do similar with USB devices but yeah no idea if there is something that would combine both.
