RTX2070S 8gb enough?

Tubberware

Hey!

I'm new here, so excuse me if I posted in the wrong place. I just ordered a new PC, where the options were between Asus GeForce® RTX 2070S 8GB Evo or upgrading to Asus GeForce RTX 2080S 8GB EVO. I went with the 2070S version, but I am unsure if I should have went with the 2080S. Since it's weekend, I still have time to call in monday and maybe change it. But the question is; Can the 2070S run games like RDR2, Star citizen, Tarkov etc. on ultra graphics with good fps without trouble. Atm I usually play 1080p on my Lenovo Y27f 27" gaming monitor. Usually always been on budget pc's. This time around I just want a pc that run everything ultra without trouble while I listen to music/have a youtube vid/twitch stream going on my second monitor.

P.S. it comes with i7 9700k in case anyone was wondering.

Thx for the reply :) Unfortunately, it was only those two being considered currently. But maybe in future I might for a bigger monitor and enjoy that 1440p.

So you'd say 2070S is more than fine for ultra settings with high fps in those demanding games? :D

I'm no tech guy, just know a few basic things. So what may be considered self explanatory for you, may be a big question mark for me. :)

Yes, it will be totally fine for 1080p Ultra (but with an asterisk when it comes to RDR2 as that game runs poorly at Ultra on any hardware). The 2080 Super would arguably be pretty much overkill just for 1080p.

Regarding what you said last about having other things open on your second monitor, beside your game, that's more dependant on your CPU and RAM, rather than on your GPU, but as long as you have at least 16GB of RAM you'll be fine, considering the 9700K's 8 cores are more than adequate for pretty good multitasking.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Display: Gigabyte G34WQC

Sure either would be fine not knowing what good FPS is to you. But should be able to find benchmarks for the games to make the decision.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

Spare RIg Lian Li O11 AIR MINI, I7 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, G.Skill Ares 2400 32Gb, EVGA 1080ti, 1080sc 1070sc & 1060 SSC, EVGA 850GA, Acer KG251Q 1920x1080@240hz

If it was just the other games the 2070S would hands down crush all of it...but when you throw in RDR2...

That game is tough to run on every card, the more horsepower you can throw at it the better.  All that said, you should be fine with your 2070S in everything at 1080p, I probably wouldnt go further than that for 1080p unless I was aiming at >144hz

El Zoido:  9900k + RTX 4090 / 32 gb 3600mHz RAM / z390 Aorus Master

The Box:  3900x + RTX 3080 /  32 gb 3000mHz RAM / B550 MSI mortar
