Help please! Weird black screen with r9 290

Alex780

Hi guys! I recently got my new r9 290 from sapphire and I'm having quite a weird issue. The first time I booted my computer with the new card, it couldn't post. I tried to read the led screen on my motherboard but it didn't mean anything precise (like graphics initialization or something like that). I also tried connecting my dvi to another port, then tried with the hdmi and then I got a signal but it was just a plain faded purple screen.

I removed the gpu from my pc and tried with the igpu from my 4670k and there was no problem. So the issue doesn't come from my screen. I also noticed that my mobo switched automatically from uefi to legacy bios. I decided to slap the r9 290 back in my system because who knows... lol. And surprisingly my pc posted. Now it seems to work fine, after 1 hour of intensive gaming, but only in windows. Before entering windows, my screen is black. I don't even get a signal. So I can't change my bios settings anymore if I want to. For those who wonder, I have a msi z87 gd65 motherboard. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

@Alex780 This guy is having a similar problem with his sapphire 290 GPU.......http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/115122-problem-connecting-monitor/

I think i found a fix to your problem. Go here.....http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/115122-problem-connecting-monitor/  and scroll down to UEFI BIOS support and read what they put up. Now if you did your motherboard BIOS update and you still having this problem i would contact Sapphire.

My primary video source is set to pci-e and I have the latest bios for my mobo so I'm going to contact both msi and sapphire.

Asrock 970 extreme 3.... why?

just to know if you had the same motherboard as I have. I thought it could be a compatibility problem.
