PC no display, won't turn off with power button

Bucs

Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 2600

GPU: Radeon rx 570

PSU: Thermaltake 600w

Motherboard: Gigabyte b450m ds3h

RAM: G.Skill 16GB stick 3200 mhz

Also have western digital 1tb HDD and an m.2 ssd 128gb (Windows is on my HDD)

So I built a gaming pc a little over a week ago and everything was operating fine. My games were running well and everything was good. A few nights ago, I gamed rainbow six siege for about 2 hours and then played a game of Apex Legends. My system didn't seem to be overheating so that doesn't seem to be an issue, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyways, I had left it on and used my browser for a bit and then left it (I don't remember if I put it in sleep mode or just let it idle all night). When I went to use it the next day, I pressed the keyboard to activate the screen and no signal was coming up. It was as if nothing was connected to my screen. So I made sure my PC was on and it surely was, so I went to turn it off.

I held the power button for 10+ seconds and nothing happened. My PC was running but it would not shut off, so I used the switch on my PSU as I tried for a few minutes and couldn't get the power button to work. I turned it back on and my screen would get to its normal GIGABYTE screen where I can press DEL for BIOS, F9, etc.... and it would say "Starting Automatic Repair" and have the circle go around 2-3 times before losing display. I notice that when I start up my PC, everything works like my case fans, my cpu fans, and my gpu fans. As soon as my screen goes blank, my case fans stop working and so does my GPU fans, but my CPU fan keeps going.

I have tried using a different power supply and graphics card and nothing changed. I don't have an integrated graphics card so I used an old EVGA GTX 660 ti. I also took out my HDD and downloaded windows onto a flash drive and tried to install it through my SSD, but all I get then is the windows logo and it just sits there, no loading circle or anything. I have gotten it to the point where the circles spin and says "Starting Automatic Repair" but it still crashes like stated before. These different reactions would come from changing my boot priorities in BIOS, but either way, I get nowhere.

Also to mention, when I load up BIOS, everything in my system seems to be working, but as soon as I exit, it goes back to that GIGABYTE screen and my fans stop operating and I lose all display to my screen. When I am in BIOS I can turn off my PC with the power button properly, but as soon as I lose display, I can no longer turn off my PC with the power but and have to use the switch on the PSU.

I am really just looking for any help with identifying what the problem is. This is the first computer I have ever built so I don't have much experience with failing parts. As far as I can tell, the issue lies with either my CPU, RAM, or motherboard, but I don't know if that is an accurate thought or not. I have looked into resetting my CMOS but I have yet to do it and am still unsure of how exactly to do it. Everything was working well and fast for over a week and now I am somehow here If anyone can help, please let me now!!

You can try resetting the bios by taking out the CMOS battery, waiting 30 seconds to a minute, then putting the battery back in. It seems like a driver is causing the problem since the computer operates fine until windows starts. Try booting to safe mode to see if you still have the problem. Safe mode starts windows with only the essential drivers, so if it is a driver problem the problem should go away while you are in safe mode.

I never really see windows start though. When I have everything installed into my system as normal, all I see is the GIGABYTE logo and then it crashes. The only time I see the windows logo is when I take my HDD out (which has windows installed) and use a flash drive to try and install windows on my SSD but all I get is the windows logo and nothing else.

I also am not sure how to boot into safe mode from when it is powered down, but I am going to reset my CMOS later when I get home and see if it helps. When I reset my CMOS, should I do it with my HDD plugged in or not?

Appreciate the fast response to my post!

That’s interesting that the installation media doesn’t boot either. That points to a hardware problem rather than drivers. I would reset the CMOS first, then if that doesn’t work I would update the bios. It shouldn’t matter if you have the HDDs in or not when you reset the bios, but the boot order may change so I would check that afterwards. Another problem could be with memory, have you tried taking out all but one stick of RAM, as well as using different slots? I have had similar problems when my ram speed was set too high, if you have XMP enabled in bios, try disabling it and lowering the ram speed to 2133MHz and see if the system boots after that.

I only have one stick of RAM unfortunately. I thought I bought 2x8 GB RAM but I got 1 16 GB stick. I resest the CMOS and nothing changed, still having the same issue.

I would experience an issue in the last week were if I overclocked my RAM to its advertised 3200 MHz speed, after a couple minutes of use my PC would crash. This would cause me to have to change the BIOS setting to its stock speed of 2133 MHz and everything worked fine afterwards.

I am still stuck now as I updated the BIOS and am still having issue. I was already at the most recent BIOS but I figured it would be worth a shot to try and re-update it. Let me know if you have anymore ideas!

seems more like a Windows hard drive issue to me...although 10 mostly is very forgiving [I mean you can plug a hard rive into a totally different system and it will boot to Windows] but then there's times when it just decides to shit itself...and there's nothing that will work other than a new install...and I've seen times where I have had to use an offline Linus dvd to wipe an drive because the USB just couldn't be seen by Windows...so...good luck!!

For anyone wondering, it was a motherboard issue. I got my motherboard replaced with a new one and my computer is back to working like nothing was ever wrong! Hope this helps anyone who needs it!

I am having a similar issue. Playing games for a while, nothing intensive. Then all of a sudden my screens lose signal, cpu cooler is still running and front IO power button doesnt work. Cpu error light on mother board is on when this happens. I really hope I don’t have to replace hardware. Difference between this and OP is it’s random and system runs fine till it happens.
