Help me choose TV please

Hey guys!

I am currently struggling with the question of what TV to buy. I am looking for some affordable (~$500), 4K Smart TV, with two main uses - Netflix and 1080p PC gaming. Viewing distance would be 10-11 feet, so I'm looking at a range 50"-65".

Not sure if 50Hz and 100Hz are a really huge difference when dealing with TV panels and if it's worth the money. If so, consider the budget a bit higher. Also, the blacks are really important, but I know nothing about the TVs display technologies.

Thanks

Go to rtings.com and read reviews.

Get something with less than 30ms input lag if you're using it for gaming.

as mentioned above rtings is a good review site to look for displays.

At 10-11 feet viewing distance, 65" is the smallest u'd want. I'd recommend going bigger though, perhaps 75".

TV use viewing distance = 1.5x to 2x diagonal size.

PC use viewing distance = 1.25x diagonal size.

Gaming use view distance = 1.5x diagonal size.

Gaming is dependent on the type of game. You wouldnt want to be sitting at the highest TV viewing distance playing a RTS, but a RPG and to some degree FPS, is doable.

So at 65" the following view distances would be around...

TV = 8.1 to 10.8 feet

PC = 6.7 feet

Gaming = 8.1 feet

So if u cant change ur seating position depending on what ur doing u'd do well to go bigger than 65".

75" for example

TV = 9.4 to 12.5 feet

PC = 7.8 feet

gaming = 9.4 feet

Being that u say u'd be sitting between 10 and 11 feet away, thats closer to 75" territory for Gaming and normal TV use.

Thanks for replying. I intend to play racing games, maybe some GTA as well, nothing fast or precision based. I see what you mean with the size, but grabbing a 75'' model will set me back double of my budget, so I really doubt it is worth such an extra. So I reckon, I should go for a 65'' then.

What about the frequencies though? As far as I know, HDMI won't do more than 60Hz, so what's up with that fuzz about 100Hz? Or is it just the TVs processing of the image?

For the most part a lot of the frequencies thrown around are BS, usually smooth motion techniques or back light frequencies.

'real' frequency usually end up being 60hz and 120hz.

120hz displays usually specifically state something like 4k @ 60hz , 1080p @ 120hz

Its best to go by reviews like rtings than manufacturer specs tbh, as those reviews specifically test for frequency at other compatible resolutions.

You wont find 4k 120hz on anything other than the latest and upcoming TV's as that requires HDMI 2.1

Yeah, I just hit a problem, where no TVs from the reviews are available in my country, and I cannot find no reviews of the TVs actually available on rtings.com or anywhere for what it's worth, so I guess I just have to eyeball it now...
