White VGA Light On, But Everything Appears to Run Fine

Go to solution Solved by Husky,

If it is running fine then you have nothing to worry about. The light staying is probably just due to a bug in the UEFI or something. You could test if it stays off if you disable Windows Fast Startup (under Control Panel > Power Options > Change what the power buttons do).

I recently built my first PC about a week ago. I have a Asus ROG Strix Z390-E motherboard, with a RTX 2080S. My computer boots just fine, but the VGA light turns on and I have to restart after booting to have it turn off. The GPU is detected and all my games run great, all drivers are up to date. So I have no idea why this light turns on. It's strange that I have to restart the computer after the first boot in order for the light to turn off. I have to do this every time I turn on my computer.

P.S. this is my first post, sorry if there is more info I need to provide, just let me know if that is the case.

Thank you, disabling Fast Startup appears to have solved the VGA light issue. Normally I would have been able to ignore the light, but it is incredibly bright. I'm booting from an M.2 NVMe ssd so it still starts up almost immediately.

Im having the same issue with my motherboard, i tried turning off the fast startup in the power options but the VGA light still on. Everything works fine when playing games and video editing. I would like to solve this issue since it is annoying to restart the pc everyday just to turn off the bright VGA light. PLEASE HELP!

Hello everyone, I have Intel Core I7-10700k | Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X | Gigabyte Rtx 2070 Super | 32GB Ram.

I also have the problem posted above, the PC boots normally, and works fine.

The GPU is detected and all the games run great, all drivers are up to date.

But VGA Light keeps on until restart to shut it off.

Tried turning off the Fast boot and worked for several days but now its back again.

Anyone has other options?

For anyone else who finds this thread like I did trying to solve this problem...

I just upgraded to an Asus Z490-F and had this issue with my board, GPU would not work in BIOS/UEFI at all, VGA light solid always but would boot to OS without issue and GPU worked fine.

I FINALLY found an "NVIDIA GRAPHICS FIRMWARE UPDATE TOOL FOR DISPLAYPORT 1.3 AND 1.4 DISPLAYS" (NVIDIA Graphics Firmware Update Tool for DisplayPort 1.3 and 1.4 Displays) that resolved this issue. I guess if you have any displays using DisplayPort on Nvidia cards 7xx-1000 and/or Quadro cards based on Maxwell/Pascal its possible to have this issue and the tool updates your cards firmware. This was happening on my EVGA 1080ti FTW3 Hybrid which never had this issue with my previous motherboard.

Hopefully helpful to someone, cheers!

I have this exact problem. And i noticed that when using the display port the light is always on but when i use hdmi the light turns off... So i was thinking that it has something to do with the display port. I have a gtx 1080. Thank you, i'll try that tool.

One question for anyone having this issue? Is your monitor turned on first or is already in standby? I was having the same problem were at random the white LED light would stay on and I have found out if I boot my pc with the monitor fully powered off, it will have the white led come on. However if I boot it while the monitor is in standby it does not stay on.

So atleast for me booting with the monitor powered off will trigger the led light to stay on, but I never have the problem if I either leave my monitor in standby or turn it on first before turning on the pc.

Can't believe the fix was this simple (for me at least)!
I have a TV for a monitor and the last few times I've turned the PC on first, then the TV. Thanks for highlighting this :)

Also, Merry Christmas! May your frames be high, and your temps low.

Thank you kind sir.  My white light was on after building my new machine with a z590-e and my 1080 FTW2.  Also had a blank display until the OS loaded.  This was the solution!  Thank you, thank you! :)

Hi everyone,

I recently started having this problem after I switched my system from Legacy to UEFI and did a fresh installation of Windows 10.

I have disabled 'Fast Startup' as mentioned above - it did not work.

I have tried to install the 'NVIDIA Graphics Firmware Update Tool for DisplayPort 1.3 and 1.4 Displays', but it gives an error. <see below>

If anyone can provide some other solution to fix this issue it will be immensely appreciated. Please let me know if any other info is required.

My setup:

Dual monitor - Connected through HDMI and Display Port.

GPU - RTX 3070.

Resizable Bar turned on.

I as well registered to give a feedback guys. I found my solution. I flushed the static electricity. Power off --> turn the power switch on the PSU to 0 --> unplug the power cable --> hold the power button on the case for 30 seconds. I hope that help somebody.
