hey guys i just want to know that is it possible to run a rx 580 on a dell optiplex 7010 ssf motherboard provided that i put in a bigger power supply. and yes i am aware of how tiny the case is and i will be modding it heavily.i just want to know if there's any issue running something like this provided i have a proper power supply.

speaking of power supplies do any one of you know any sfx power supply that can run the rx 580 properly especially one with two pcie power cables

thank you

The GPU will not physically fit in the case. Quite honestly you could just take everything out of the case and put it in a cardboard box.

The motherboard does have a PCIe slot so it should be fine with a GPU as long as you have a decent PSU.

You have to be careful though because some Dells have a custom CPU/Motherboard power pin layout and the standard PSU might not physically fit into the headers.

Should have no problems, unless parts do not fit in the case. These SFX PSU's all will work just fine with an RX580:

The EVGA GM 550W is a good option:

This is your motherboard?

75522584_images(2).jpeg.c646fc5e119551686feed811c987abaf.jpeg

On the bright side it appears to be using a standard ATX 24pin, meaning you can replace the power supply without needing to replace the motherboard or use adaptors.

But the problem is where it's placed will likely conflict with any longer devices placed in the PCIe slot, such as a graphics card.

It isn't a standard ATX layout motherboard either so you probably won't be able to fit it in normal cases.

Which is a problem as ATX and even SFX power supplies won't fit in your existing Dell case. Here's a photo showing the dimensions of the PSU in your system.

Screenshot_20200118-064053_Chrome.thumb.jpg.9070d52d3034fda966376d627f9eb57b.jpg

And as @anoor9000 already mentioned the graphics card wouldn't fit in the case anyway.

You could take the system out of the case and run it in a cardboard box, that way you won't have issues with the graphics card and power supply fitting in the case, but even then you would still have the issue of where the 24pin connector is located potentially blocking the PCIe slots.

Those small form factor OEM systems aren't designed to be upgraded. It's almost as if they want you to buy an entirely new system every 2-3 years.

I don’t think the sff motherboard uses standard standoffs for mounting, so it is a problem for a case swap.  You can buy the mid tower motherboard on ebay for like $10-20 and then a case change is a lot more realistic. You will also need the power switch, front IO, Dell fans, and maybe a Dell temperature probe from your sff case to get it all working (unless you want to have to hit F1 every time you boot it)

Having said all that, I still think it is a decent way to go.  I built one like that with a Xeon E31230 v2 and it is a beast for such a low cost PC.
