What to upgrade

What to upgrade?

So I recently came into £145 because of birthday and Christmas (plus about £95 in mall vouchers) and i was wondering what is the best upgrade on my pc?
Specs:
MSI B350 PC Mate mobo
Ryzen 5 1400
Gtx 1050 ti
8GB of DDR4 ram
Zalman Z9 case

Other things not mentioned like hard drive and psu are perfect for me right now so no upgrade needed. Any help is appreciated!

It depends on what you're doing with your PC. I'm assuming it's gaming so I will ask you:

  • What games are you playing?
  • What resolution and refresh rate is your monitor?

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

1. Upgrade the BIOS and the drivers (especially the Chipset drivers from the AMD website).

2. Upgrade the CPU. The best "budget" upgrade would be the Ryzen 5 1600 AF (that's a weaker Ryzen 5 2600) or the 2600X. Steap on top of that - Ryzen 5 3600 or Ryzen 7 2700.

3. Upgrade the RAM.

4. GPU upgrade.

What's your PSU? The monitor (resolution)?

I'd upgrade the RAM first, since it would give him a noticeable boost right away, and it doesn't seem like his CPU would hold back a1050Ti.

I would do pretty much the exact opposite of this.  Dont get rid of the GPU yet because there is about to be a generational change (but plan on doing it soon) and a ram upgrade is difficult to make work with multiple memory kits.  The 1600af is a pretty good buy right now and while it won’t make games go faster now because the GPU won’t do a lot more than its already doing, it will set up a machine with more potential. Down side is spending money on something you won’t see the results of until a better GPU comes along.  This is not to say the above poster is wrong.   It’s a now or later thing.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

You state you have a hard drive so I would  recommend an SSD to boot from instead.

Then RAM if not already in dual channel. 8GB is fine as a base.

Without knowing your use case these are the only upgrades to recommend as most people should be on dual channel and booting from an SSD.

^ This is the first one I'd do, so much, if you do only have a HDD and no SSD. Just a 250gb one or something for windows will make a massive difference and they are dirt cheap at the minute.
