Used iPhone prices are ridiculous!

Spotify is much more easily justified than unnecessarily spending $20 on bluetooth earbuds that aren't needed.

Consider that Android 6 came out in 2015. Same year as the iPhone 6S/6S Plus - a phone still currently supported by iOS - as in, it got iOS 13 and all current patches.

The first device to run Android 6 was the Nexus 5X. What OS is a Nexus 5X on? Android 8.1 was the latest release - two major OS revisions ago.

I had a thought. Figured I would post it here:
iOS obviously gets official system updates for much longer than Samsung, BUT when it comes to app support iOS is far worse than android on older system versions...

So I did a test, I looked up 5 common apps (mix of games, 'social media', and utility apps) and recorded their minimum iOS/Android versions (using the latest version of the apk for android):
Pokemon Go -Android 5.0 -iOS 10
Netflix -Android 4.0 -iOS 12
Spotify -Android 4.1 -iOS 11
Discord -Android 5.0 -iOS 10
Reddit -Android 5.0 -iOS 11

If we also take devices of similar ages (iPhone 5 (sept. 2013) and Galaxy S4 (apr. 2013)) and compare their latest official System versions:
Galaxy S4 - Android 5.0
iPhone 5 - iOS 10.3.4

We see that ALL 5 of these Apps work on the GS4 where as only 2 work on the iPhone...
Obviously this isn't a perfect test but I feel like the praise for Apple keeping their phones up to date longer because it allows consumers to use their phones longer is maybe a little bit not as clear cut as it seems because iOS apps generally require a much newer version of iOS compared to Android...

why no dark mode?

You have to consider that the reason why most apps require iOS 10 or newer is that iOS entirely ditched 64 bit, and forced app developers to update their apps or they got dropped completely. That was a massive shift, but after that, I doubt there'll be another similar massive shift in a long time.

So yeah you can continue to use an unsupported Android device w/ no OS updates for longer, but without those OS updates, I wouldn't want to, given the potential security implications of running an unpatched OS.

Either way, there are benefits to both Android and iOS - though iOS devices are supported for much longer, Android Apps tend to have a lower OS version requirement. Pick your poison.

For me, I'd much rather have the extended support, which includes security patches and bug fixes for exploits, etc. Everyone values things differently though, and that's awesome because we have this choice and can make it however we decide.

For Sale: Meraki Bundle

iPhone Xr 128 GB Product Red - HP Spectre x360 13" (i5 - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB SSD) - HP ZBook 15v G5 15" (i7-8850H - 16 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD - NVIDIA Quadro P600)

For most people I can see why they prefer iOS's longer update support.

Personally IDC about my personal devices, I just unofficially update my devices XD

My Galaxy S5 (car media player) runs Android 9.0 and my G6 (backup/rom testing device) runs Android 10...
