After receiving a new ryzen 3700x for Christmas, I decided to place it into my computer. However, I forgot to update my bios from my old bios to the ryzen 3000 compatible version. So, I put the old cpu back in, and upon placing it back into the slot and reinstalling it, I tried to turn it on, but the power button won’t work, it won’t turn on, it appears to be fine, but nothing is helping.

You should check if the PSU is fine and try to start up the board by bridging the PWR pins on the board.

I should have clarified—I can start it,  it only when using the 3700x, the problem is, it won’t give a display, which I assume is the bios acting up

So.. does your PC turn on or does it not?

In what way does it/does it not turn on? Lights, fan, post code/LED? etc.

Did it work before, does it work with the old CPU, does it work with the new CPU?

In your first post you said it won't turn on, now you are saying it does turn on..

You are connected to a dedicated GPU, right?

Yes, sorry it turns on with the 3700x installed (when I press the power button). When I put the 2600x in, it appears to be working (motherboard is displaying boot) but when I press the power button, it won’t turn on. It worked fine before installing the new cpu, and I am using a dedicated gpu, specifically the Gtx 1080

What do you mean with 'turns on' in the first and second sentence of your post?

Fan spin, LEDs, picture on display, etc.

- Double check if the PSU works: https://www.silverstonetek.com/downloads/QA/PSU/PSU-Paper Clip-EN.pdf

- Reset/clear the cmos/bios (see your motherboard manual how to do that).

Are you sure the BIOS update went right and supports both CPU types? No bent pins on either CPU, all cables properly plugged in, etc.?

It turns on in the sense that LEDs are running, fans are on, but there isn’t anything going to the monitor

GPU fans too? I would reseat that and double check the power cables going to it. What motherboard do you have?

I would try booting with a single stick of RAM too. Have you cleared the CMOS/BIOS already, in case there was some incompatible memory profile set up?

I believe I have. How do you know when you have actually cleared CMOS

Just follow these steps to clear the CMOS:

If you reset the CMOS, turn on the PC and see what those LEDs indicate.

So when you turn it on, the Q LED just stays OFF?

This is the build while on, one more thing of note is that with the 3700x in there it turns ok but will only turn off when holding the power button for a full 5-10 seconds

Nope. Nothing. None of them are on

That's weird, it doesn't detect CPU, GPU or RAM as an issue.. But also doesn't boot.

Unplug all your storage drives and mash DEL upon startup and see if that does anything. But before that I would just turn it on and leave it for a couple minutes, sometimes that helps too.

In such a small case I'd imagine there is a higher chance something got knocked loose.  Did you check all cables, RAM, etc?

Okay, I tried this, and the display shows nothing. It’s not getting any sort of signal, and the qleds are blank

I wonder if this might be relevant?  I haven't read through the instructions -- just stumbled across it going to your mobo manual.

Try another display (like the TV). So the cable goes from the GPU to the TV.
