Hello users, I have an Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING Motherboard, with an i5-8500. I was lurking around today when i noticed an i3-3950KF and i thought it was a funny little 4 core chip. I am not here for the value proposition of the 3600X or hearing about how many threads i won't have. What i am here for is putting my motherboards overclocking capabilities to good use, since frankly, they are wasted on my i5-8500. I won't be streaming, i won't be video editing, and at most i might record gameplay onto my pc. What i am here for is pure gaming, not bottle necking my 1070ti, and overclocking a CPU to 5Ghz, which is why i thought the i3-3950KF was kind of cool. Should i upgrade to a i5-9600KF? And if so, do you guys think i could get the CPU to 5Ghz?

Still no 9350KF because 4 cores 4 threads just isnt enough. Even at 5GHz it's only worth playing old games that dont use more than 4 cores and at that point, you dont even need something this new. 9600KF... only if it's cheap.

Btw get high frequency memory if you dont want to waste the board.

Yeah, my main goal isn't the 3950KF, mainly interested in 9600KF because the i7 is kinda out of my reach. And i have a kit of Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4 3000 C15 2x8GB  ram installed in the Mobo

The 9600KF isn’t that much of an upgrade from the 8500. Get an i7 or i9 if you want a real improvement

I agree man, but for around 200-210 dollars, i can't deny it.

Or you could just be patient, keep saving this 200 dollars plus more and get yourself an i7 10700K next year around march... which will be a slightly cheaper 9900K, can't see the i5 8500 not keeping up with a 1070 Ti in gaming unless you're trying some weird 1080p240hz configuration.

Yeah, was hoping someone would tell me this. I really am just trying to balance out the System in total with a 9600KF, but i don't know much about these new 10 gen cpus from intel yet. May as well wait till after CES thats comming up incase new info appears, but i am mostly worried about needing to upgrade the mobo.

9600KF

Just note, at least looking on PCPP almost always the 9600KF is actually more expensive than the 9600K so do make sure you're getting the cheaper one.

Now, I'd wait since the 9600K is very close to become the yesterday's 7600K which nowadays as it chokes lacking resources is way behind the charts:

See how the processors with at least 6c/12t do significant better on 1% lows compared to 4c/4t/8t or 6c/6t.

If you'll only think on averages you can imagine the 9600K is all you need but have in mind in here it's already on 100% usage, it has nothing more to give and is already suffering compared to the 8700K... tomorrow's games will be even more resources hungry and the processor will be more likely to choke as the 7600K has causing stuttering and bad gaming experience.

Well, this is very insightful, should probably save an extra 200 hundred dollars for a threaded CPU, or atleast some of the eight core cpus from intel. I just really don't want to discover that this platform doesn't have much more to give me. Which is a truth am avoiding.
