Is there a way to control the volume though the receiver instead of the tv, the tv is a little hard getting to the IR eye. They have a way to change it to control the volume through the Blue ray or other connected device. I just think it is odd you can't pick the dish receiver

I have Dish and have never seen any kind of option like that. Pretty sure you can only change the volume through the AV receiver or the TV.

I control the volume through the AV receiver in one room and a TV in the other and never seem to have any issues with the IR. Do you have your seating arrangement at an odd angle in relation to the TV?

Perhaps your TV has some kind of IR dongle extender option? I'd look into that. Otherwise, maybe consider getting some kind of Harmony solution. Probably not what you want to do but if it solves the problem it is better than nothing.

If you're having trouble getting a good "signal" (meaning: Line of sight) to the IR Receiver, you should just get an IR Repeater instead:

There are many options to choose from - basically you attach a small IR emitter directly overtop of the IR Receiver on your TV, then that emitter is connected to a different IR Receiver that you can place strategically in a better location.

A lot of them allow you to hook up multiple receivers, so you can control more than one device at once, but this is entirely optional.
