Which is the better pre-built?

machonm

I'm looking at two higher end pre-built machines. I need something with a small form factor but enough power to game, work, etc. I'd also like something which has enough current tech to be around for a little while so I dont need a new PC any time soon. I'm looking for the best combo of quality, price and size. FWIW, I use an Aorus 27" IPS panel with a 144MHz refresh rate which is why I'm looking at the higher end graphics cards.

That said, I'm looking at two machines:

Machine One - Corsair One i165

  • CPU: Intel 9900K on a Z370 chipset (liquid cooled)

  • RAM: 32GB 2667MHz

  • Graphics: 11GB RTX2080Ti

  • Storage: 960GB SSD, 2TB spindle drive

  • Warranty: 2yrs

  • Price: $3000, bonus here is Corsair is throwing in a $350 gaming chair with purchase as a promo

Machine Two - Falcon Northwest Tiki

  • CPU: AMD 3900x on an X570 chipset (liquid cooled)

  • RAM: 32GB 3200MHz

  • Graphics: 8GB RTX2080 Super

  • Storage: 1TB Samsung Evo 970

  • Warranty: 3yrs parts/labor

  • Price: $3305 (I'll get a small discount off this but its only ~$150)

The way I see it right now, the Falcon is likely the better quality build/support option and its on a newer chipset but the Corsair is cheaper overall and the 2080Ti is definitely going to last longer overall, I just hate that its using the older chipset.. If you had to pick one, which way would you lean and why? Thanks!

gpu makes more difference than the cpu, so the first one

CPU: Intel core i7-8086K Case: CORSAIR Crystal 570X RGB CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H150i PRO RGB Storage: Samsung 980 Pro - 2TB NVMe SSD PSU: EVGA 1000 GQ, 80+ GOLD 1000W, Semi Modular GPU: MSI Radeon RX 580 GAMING X 8G RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4 3200mhz Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E Gaming

They're both using the current chipsets for their respective manufacturers.  Older chipset means nothing here.

Odd that the second one has a $400 cheaper GPU yet costs $300 more.

I'd buy the first one if I had to choose between the 2.

The Z390 is a little newer and offers better USB/WiFi which is why I called it out on the Corsair.  You're right though, the Falcon premium is pretty steep when taken in the context of just the graphics alone.  Thanks for the feedback.

Ahh, I missed that actually.  I read it as Z390, I apologize.  You're right, but I can't tell if the USB/wifi is better since you don't tell us what motherboard it is.  Z370 vs Z390 USB/Wifi is probably the same.

Yeah, paying $3300 for the second machine is a ripoff.  Not worth more than $2000.  The first one isn't worth more than $2500, but you pay out the ass for prebuilts.,

They're probably trying to ride the AMD hype train and increase their profits. Never heard of Falcon Northwest Tiki.

Edit: I would go for system 1 if you want a prebuilt.

I would go for 1. Cheaper and better hardware, and don't worry about the chipsets, they are both very new.

Not sure which mobo is in the Corsair actually, I think its an MSI of some sort based on tear down videos.

I would go for a prebuild with a standart case insted of these very specialised cases, just to have a good upgrade path down the road.

NZXT BLD got some cool builds.
Or heck even Origin PC they are owned by Corsair so why not.

But ye not a fan of thos custom cases, where you dont have a easy time doing upgrades later on.

Thanks for the feedback but I need a small form factor case in this instance so my options are limited.  I looked at the Origin Chronos, which is also small, and the cost was just a little cheaper than the Falcon for similar specs.  Plus I'd heard Origin wasnt as good in the quality department as it could be, even LTT had a video where the quality on the Chronos specifically was questioned. Thats why they arent on the list.

Just a shame using a lot of money on a computer that there is no upgrade path for, where you are stuck with what you got.

But ye there can be reasons for wanting small form factor's even tho, if you want to put it in to a cupboard
