Hello. I am struggling to get decent fps with the machine I have.
I just can't understand how I'm getting such a poor performance in all games with this components. Some games are playable but I still got lower performance than expected.

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super

  • i7-9700

Here's also a benchmark test I did yesterday, in this link you can see my full RIG along with the results.
I've read so many things in formus and websites but I just can't solve it with any solutions.

Any help would be highly apreciated.

The attached image is Battlefield 5 alongisde with MSI Afterburner on a full server. Graphic settings are LOW.

CPU usage 100% indicates you are bottlenecked by your CPU.

In BF5? That is normal for a CPU without hyperthreading.

My 8700k gets loaded 80%+ across 12 threads.

Is your CPU thermal throttling?

I don't know how that's possible because both components are high end and similar price range. At least I watched a video from Linus today and he talked about that. But I don't understand much of it. That's why I'm looking for help ?

I'm pretty sure it's not temperature related. I tested it as soon as I started the PC and the weather is currently very cold here x)

I can do another test with the temperatures on screen as well though.
However, I'm getting a better cooler soon (NZXT w/ watercooling).

I don't have anything big running in the background. (at least that I know of)

Definitely not something with high cpu usage.

Rtx 2060 super is NOT high end. Also it looks like you did not enable XMP on your Ram.

My bet is on thermal throttling as well - what are your temps exactly under load?

Is this a completely new system? The cooler might not be seated correctly or something in that direction. As mentioned above - this is definitely a CPU issue and you should start diagnosing in that directing. I would start with the cooling, as the CPU itself seems to be working and it should have no problem at all handling all that you could throw at it as a gamer.

Ok, even if it's not super high end. This performance is still not acceptable, I think.

Is your CPU constantly at 100% or is it just in that screen shot. Also Try putting your settings to high. If you are CPU bottlenecked lower settings will make it worse.

I took this screenshot again in a server. This time, settings are ultra (as optimized by GeForce experience). I didn't see a change in the fps at all. This is weird because I get the same fps with low or high settings. XMP is also enabled now as mentioned by the comment I just quoted above.

In this new screenshot above you can see the temps when in game. I've noticed it gets really hot.

This is a completely new system, yes.
I am soon getting a better cooler system and RAM.

What would you recommend that I do with the CPU? I've checked and I think that it is built correctly because it wasn't me who built it.

97c is thermal throttling. What is your cpu cooler? Maybe they just didn’t put enough thermal paste on. You can also try doing a negative voltage offset to reduce the temps until your new cooler arrives.

The cooler is just the normal one that came with the cpu.

A friend of mine also told me that it could be too much or too little thermal paste.

What will it affect if I undervolt the cpu? I think I'll just not play the games that require this much power until it arrives. I'll stick to league and warframe for now.

Thanks a lot for your help as well!

Yea the stock cooler isn’t enough to keep a 9700 cool. I’m not sure if you can adjust the voltages on the locked processor, but if you can it will reduce the temperatures. There is overhead in the amount of voltage provided on intel CPU’s, so reducing it will make it run at the same frequency at a lower temperature. If you reduce the voltage too much your system will crash though. At that point you just add back a bit of voltage. This is what mine looks like in the ASUS bios -> advanced -> ai tweaker. I Changed the cpu voltage to “offset mode”, changed the one below it to “-“, and then manually entered “.020”. If that runs stable then you’re good, if it isn’t then go up to .018, .016, .014... until it is.

You can put a lot of thermal paste and it wont damage anything (although I would avoid a lot of it). Just put a bit of paste in the middle (slightly more than the size of a rice grain) and make sure the cooler is touching the cpu properly. Your ram sticks are inserted wrongly.  The way it is right now doesn’t allow them to run on dual channel. Always skip one slot. Ex.: 1st slot memory, 2nd slot empty, 3rd slot ram, 4th slot empty. Whoever built your pc doesn’t know what they are doing.

Ps: your system is a mid tier level, not high end as you think.

Check thermal paste and cooler mounting pressure first, then see if you need a better cooler. Also I think the problem was caused by who ever put it together.
