I purchased an ROG Strix 5700xt at MicroCenter recently and have up until January 14th to be able to return it for a refund. That said, I found someone local that bought a ROG Strix GTX 1080ti on black friday, and then ended up going with the 2080 instead. He’s wanting willing to sell it for $500, so $50 more than what the 5700xt goes for. I’m slightly tempted. What are your thoughts? Did some googling and there’s people on both sides. Sounds like the only downside on the 1080ti would be that it is an older card and may not be supported for as long as the 5700xt will be.

The seller also offered to send me any benchmark I wanted, and a gameplay video with it running to verify its in working order.

This is my first PC build so I'm no expert, hoping you guys can lend me some expertise and see if the jump up is worth the risk and slight price increase. Thank you guys!

Side Note: I enjoy Open World games, and casually playing FPS games as well. I am using a 1440p 144hz monitor as well, hopefully this provides additional insight as to the GPU performance I'm looking at.

The 1080ti is about 20% higher performance than a 5700XT. If you have the budget for it, I would recommend going for it. (but try and get him to lower the price by at least $25-$50 unless it's in an unopened package)

If the 1080ti has normal warranty then go for it.
