I saw the article on rx5500 that pcie 3.0 is limiting it's performance significantly. So what if the next gen GPUs use this tech then i would be stucked with pcie 3.0 on a b450 board. Will the B550 use pcie 4.0?

??  The only cards that can use even more than half of Pcie 3.0x 16 are really high end cards and the 5500 isn’t one of those.  This doesn’t make sense unless AMD deliberately crippled the 5500 for pcie 3.0

id want to see that article.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

https://www.neowin.net/news/pcie-30-could-be-crippling-amds-rx-5500-xt-performance

https://wccftech.com/amds-radeon-rx-5500-xt-graphics-cards-bottlenecked-by-pcie-bandwidth/

Apparently this is caused by the low VRAM which requires more swapping over PCIe. Seems weird, considering the 5700 XT sees little to no difference between PCIe generations.

Ok so 4gb vram is the cause of the card being slower on pcie 3.0. Thanks for clearing this.

I don't know, but that's what the articles say. 4 GB VRAM coupled with the fact that the card can only use up to 8 PCIe lanes apparently.

So it’s not an x16 card.  Interesting.  Shouldn’t matter even for pcie 3.0 though it shouldn’t be able to saturate x8pcie 3.0.  2.0, but not 3.0

makes me wonder if they’re going to try and pull something with upcoming boards like no longer putting x16 slots on them.

That's messed up. Rx5500 is not worth it atleast in India.

Starting to sound like it’s not worth it anywhere.  I’m starting to see why they killed the 590.  It was a better card.

Can anyone tell me when B550 is coming to market and is it worth waiting as this is the end of this year.

You won’t get much in the way of advanced knowledge here.  There may be people here that know, but they’re going to have NDAs blocking them from saying anything.  There can be wild speculation AFTER an announcement, but not before.  Afaik there has been no announcement for b550.  What you have said makes b550 and the 5500xt possibly something worth avoiding entirely.

Yeah, a budget card that essentially requires a non-buget board (x570)—at least for now—to reach its full speed seems kind of silly.

It’s the killing of the x16 slot.  The creepy bit is the statement in the beginning that pcie 4.0 isn’t such a gimmick.  They then say that if the lanes are halved AND the memory is lowered pcie can be made to have advantages.  Pcie allows manufacturers to make crappier cards that can be helped ever so slightly by using system memory over a faster lane.  The key is the 8 lanes.
