Is a 500Watt powersupply enough?

I plan on building a system with a GTX 690, an r5 1600, 8GB of 2400mhz ddr4, and a 128GB SSD.

Yes, I know this is a stupid build. This isn't my main system. I just want to know if 500 watts will be enough, I don't plan on overclocking anything.

What 500W power supply ? It's way more important which PSU you buy than it's rated power. But technically 500W are enough for this.

At 500w that PSU is can supply enough power easily, your system will likely draw less than 450w under MAX load. That GTX 690 is pretty power hungry if I remember correctly. And a better PSU won't increase system performance but a better PSU is only recommended because it is less susceptible to higher voltage ripple that could damage other system components, your chosen PSU is not of the highers quality. Nothing great about it.

An extra $10-20 now is a lot less than replacing entire components down the road should you be so unlucky to have your PSU damage hardware in your system. It is somewhat unlikely but again there is never any guarantee.

I know it isn't great, the only reason I was asking about this PSU is because I had one lying around. Upgrading to a higher wattage PSU would require me to buy a brand new one.

But yeah, I think I'll buy something around 600w

Ahhh so you already own it. I mean it will work fine, just not the greatest PSU option, If you upgrade make sure you get a better quality PSU and 550w+ is enough.

as with those above say better quality for sure. but more than to just wattage there is also amps that plays a role higher the better but at least with high quality ones that's normally not an issue. for example i have old 600watt psu's but also cheap and garbo but only 18amps on the 12volt rail... what the heck would i do with that? its in no way that would handle a gpu like a 690 or such and they would get hot and unstable if i attempted such (was for experimental purposes)
