Well, it shouldn't have gone anywhere else but the top of the GPU die, yours get on the sides. Luckily it's not a conductor of electricity.

or is it the paste thats on the entire cpu.

because if you're going to apply new thermal compound you definitly want to remove that layer first.

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

It was just fine the first time you applied it (not the best but just fine)

You guys making those comments did you ever remove the GPU heatsink? did you notice how messy is the paste application?

OP's application was a masterpiece compare to industrial apply!

Way cleaner. Now, apply the new paste and that's it. Cover the whole die (since it's not a heatspreader).

PS: Don't forget to clean the heatsink and remove the old paste from there.

On my Asus strix thermal paste was horrible when I took it apart first time ? now I’m changing it at least once every 6 months.

Not to destroy the thread, but from my own testing with kryonaut, a small drop in the middle will yield better results as the past is spreading in a more even manner.

Alright :) The good thing about spreading is that you won't get any excess paste on the sides.
