Current state of 5700/XT Drivers?

glhf21

So I'm in the market for a new gpu for $450 or less, and have been eyeing the 5700 XT Sapphire Nitro+ BUT I keep reading all these horror stories about driver support and updates for all the new Navi cards. Most of the complaints I've seen are from October and September so I'd like to think they're fixed, but before I pull the trigger I'd like to know: Are the 5700/XT drivers fixed?

There's no such thing as "fixed or not", Radeon's drivers have issues but your experience will always vary from others... some have more headaches while others barely have issues it depends on your OS condition and the other hardware really.

Navi is a very new and recent architecture, it hasn't had enough time to mature as much as GCN was matured for instance... these things takes time and even then there will always be some issue.

It is a fact nVidia drivers in the great scheme of things gives less issues and usually DDU in safe mode fixes any you may encounter but I don't personally think you shold base your purchase solely on the drivers, the Nitro+ for less than 450 USD is a good deal by all means.

My main concern is if they're in a better situation than they were 2 months ago. I love the performance of the new Navi cards, but coming from an Rx 580 4gb with many crashing issues playing AAA games, I just don't think I can handle another card with as many headaches as I've had recently which is why I'm so concerned about driver stability. But if they're say 75% better than what they were, I'd pull the trigger because I know it'll just get better with time. But after the Adrenaline 2020 update that broke FreeSync on 5700 XTs, I'm a little worried.

I just bought mine and having factory settings on adrenaline 2020 make every game run perfectly. Messing with the software settings has crashed a few games. It should be sorted out soon enough.

Okay great. Good to hear recent feedback of the drivers. What games do you normally play? From what I've read success varies from game to game.

Put it this was are more stable drivers worth $100+  and 6% additional FPS in some cases to get a RTX 2070 Super?  Eventually AMD will figure it out but by that time there probably will be much better cards out.  I hate to say it but Nvidia just works and that's why I run a RTX card in my main system but a 5700XT in my secondary system since it was such a good value at $410

It's just funny I had similar issues with rx580 card... Tried like 10 diff drivers,  all terrible...

My personal opinion on this matter is fool me once shame on you,  fool me twice shame on me.

And looking at Steam surveys I'd wager many had similar experiences.

I really liked them when they were ATi,  no issues ever.  But those times are obviously over.
