Laptop keyboard cover?

When I bought my current laptop, it came with a thin sheet of fabric (I think?) between the screen and the keyboard. What is this for and do I need to keep it?

you can use it to protect screen also yourself if your moving it around a lot 

thats what i used to use it for before i got my desktop and replaced the laptop 

 

no you dont need to keep it though its not needed for the function of the laptop
