I have a Samsung S8 on Xfinity Mobile and have updated the app and carrier support but when I go on google messages it still says chat features are not supported on the device. I was under the impression that any android device, regardless of carrier, has RCS support, is this not true?

It's supposed to be true as of last week.  I'm guessing you've tried restarting your phone, too.

Also, please don't try the unofficial trick mentioned in Huilun's second link.  It should work, but there are occasional complications and you're supposed to have the feature already without those workarounds.

There's a bug right now where you need to force close the app after you install and open it again before you can enable it.

Your S8 will get RCS, but no mention when. Officially, RCS requires carrier support for the feature as well. Does your carrier support? Idfk. I'm not on any US carrier. I have no interest in RCS myself.

Regardless,

Expect Google to be having a peek at your messages

Also ensure your messaging app is the Google messaging app and its kept updated

RCS through the messages app is available to everyone now regardless of carrier if you're in a supported country. You can also disable the sharing of messages with Google, it prompts you asking yes or no the first time you use it.

I did a little checking. First of all Vierzon Claims there is no cross carrier capablity. Im guessing that means it only works Verizon to Verizon. The reason why Im checking Verizon is because Xfinity Mobile uses the Verizon Network + a combo of Comcast's WiFi hotspots.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/columnist/2019/12/16/does-android-rcs-messaging-work-with-imessage-your-wireless-carrier/2662200001/ seems all the carriers are doing a shit job of getting it to work properly.

https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Xfinity-Mobile/RCS-Messaging/td-p/3290150 ALso seems Comcast support has no fucking clue, what a fucking suprise there /s. My guess is its just not supported yet. Further down the thread it does state that Google is making plans to get this working. BUT even though it was suppose to go live on 12/9, it seems a lot of people dont have the option. So sounds like Google is also having a stroke. To be honest I dont put much faith in Comcast when it comes to mobile. For them it just a money grab, they dont have a wireless network(LTE) to speak of and they never will. If you go deeper in to the thread you will see a Comcast employee states they have plans to offer it but no date. So Good luck.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

What did you think they were going to do? Sit around the camp fire roasting marshmallows and singing songs holding each others hands?

if the carriers have to be involved then this will never materialize.

It is figured out, Google said screw waiting and rolled it out on their own. It doesn't matter what carrier you have, just grab the latest version of Google messenger.

From what I have read, Google hasn’t figured it out because a lot of people say it’s blatantly doesn’t work.

There's a bug in the current release that makes it not work until you force close the app and restart it again. Then you should be able to activate it.

So how long will it take the carriers to switch?
