Graphics memory maximum meaning?

[Left: i7-4790]

[Right: i3-8300]

 

I was looking at specs on my current PC vs the PC I plan to upgrade from an i3 to and i7. I found a stat that says "graphics memory maximum" and I was wondering what exactly that meant.

how much memory you can give the iGPU...

 

btw from the looks of it your new PC plan has gone catestrophically wrong by just looking at the CPU alone

SuperPi (v1.5 from Techpowerup, PI value output) 16K: 0.100s 1M: 8.255s 32M: 7m 45.93s

I think he means; why change at this point in time? Big upgrade cost...for not an upgrade; unless you're trying to minimise initial expenditure going to the i3 8300 with the intention of upgrading the CPU to a worthwhile unit  at a [soon to be] future change, because the Devil's Canyon i7 is still a mighty fine CPU.

 

Yeah, you'll likely be able to sell the 1150 gear to offset the purchase of 1151 setup, which although a few generations newer...at an i3 8300 level...it's not really an "up"grade....

I got the i3 8300 and Mobo for 90$. Im gonna build a pc with it and then upgrade it to an i7 9th gen next year. I'm selling the i7 4790 build. Its an upgrade over time. An upgrade path. I asked a simple question and everyone wants to give their 2 cents on something nobody asked about.

you can force a set amount of system RAM to be directed to the iGPU and iGPU only. It wont be accessible by the CPU cores.

 

And for the CPU, you can obviously see that 4790 to 8300 is not a noticeable improvement. Or rather, it could be worse in games that benefit from Hyperthreading to an acceptable level. $90 is too much when the performance is just a tie.

have you factored in the needed additional cost of DDR 4 ram as you cannot use your DDR 3 ram? My thoughts on a $90 price? I reckon that is fair value; so not a bad move providing you appreciate you're likely going backwards, ang not upgrading until you swap out the CPU...
