Low taxes, swiss chocolate (Toblerone) ;)

Im not from switzerland sorry

Depending on where you live, taxes are actually not that low (especially if

you start taking into account not just income taxes but also other stuff like

VAT, asset taxes and so on and so forth). Not that we have the highest taxes

here, but I wouldn't really call them low. ;)

everything is expensive.

+1

many stupid people.

True, but that's a general problem of humanity, not just here. ;)

Personally, what I appreciate is primarily the good infrastructure we have

here and the generally pretty high standard of living (note: I have in my life

so far been part of the middle class, just as a frame of reference).

Also, while atheism isn't exactly the most popular stance on faith around here,

I can freely admit to being one and have so far not really suffered for it. It's

not a popular stance and you're not exactly encouraged to spread the disbelief,

but it's far less dangerous to be non-religious around here than in most parts

of the world from what I can tell (EDIT: There are parts of Switzerland

though that are far less tolerant in this regard and your life can be made

rather unpleasant by the powers that be if you do not comply with religious

doctrin/EDIT).

Our education system used to be pretty great, but ever since education needs

to be benchmarkable with internationally normed tests our politicians have been

shooting it to shit (it's not horrible yet, but they're working hard on getting

there) to get higher scores in international school comparison tests. My mum's

a teacher, and I have subbed for her on occasion. The paperwork and bureaucratic

fecal matter you have to wade through as a teacher these days would lead me to

going postal if that was my actual career (funny thing is, I actually rather

enjoy teaching, training recruits was one of the fun parts of being an Lt in

the army).

But by far the most annoying part about living here is that we have a shitload

of xenophobic, idiotic, racist backwoods hillbilly retards living here and making

important decisions (apologies for the language, but there is just no polite and

politically correct way to put this, not even remotely). In fact, we have so

many of those goddamn morons here that they have enough political clout to

pass really, really, really, really stupid decisions into law (just today we potentially

broke our economic relationship with the EU for the next decade or more btw.,

which for me as an internationally oriented person is just freaking bloody

effin' fantastic! banghead.gif ).

Sorry, </rant>

But yeah, the flag is a big plus. :D

PS: Just to be clear: IMHO, all things considered, living here is pretty nice compared

to most other places on the world, and things could be a lot, lot worse. But everything

is not handy-dandy, and those parts sometimes are really properly nerve-wrecking.

Also, we're not all rich. In fact, most of us aren't.

Don't know to be honest, I never really eat Toblerone (don't worry, I do eat

chocolate, otherwise I think my citizenship would be rescinded  ).

But on the subject, we (our family) were recently gifted with one of these

beasts. It's freaking massive, especially in person. :D

I believe my dad got one of these, not sure - it was twice as high as a regular computer mouse, and about 1.5 times as wide, I am too lazy to actually look up how big that would be.

It took my dad (who's been addicted to this stuff since he went to Switzerland for school) serveral weeks, even with me helping.

Yeah it's going to take a while for us to finish this one. We have given some of it

away, and my dad's GF made some of it into brownies (delicious btw. ).
