First time builder for my daughters xmas/birthday present. Please advise.

TURBD

I have never built a PC. i changed my power supply and GPU many years ago. Bought the parts from NCIX Langley that's how long ago.

Well I've been watching LTT allot and got the bug to build something bad ass. I don't game much anymore, so I'm building the PC i would want and giving it to my kid. She just turned 19 and will use it more then I ever would.

I have done allot of research, I just am not sure about power supply's. Whats the difference between a 850w bronze and a 850w gold and do I need a better one?

This is the list of parts I have or am waiting to arrive. All I'm waiting for is the RAM as I ordered 3000mh and just seen a video that says the 3900 works best with 3600mh so I ordered whats now on the list. The 3900x hasn't showed up yet, and the m.2 I ordered said it was delivered to me but I haven't got it. So I ordered a better one.

The mouse, Key board and monitor are not the greatest but she can upgrade that easy enough down the road.

So here it is. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I would like to get her a gsink monitor but where do I quit?

Ram: you can overclock the infinity fabric on the CPU to get pretty much the same performance that you would get with 3600mhz ram. If you don't want to bother, I would just get the 3600mhz ram, or settle for slightly worse performance.

Monitor: Your system is like a balls to the wall build and you're pairing it with a 24" 1080p panel. I would honestly suggest dropping down to the 2080 super and spending the extra money to get something like a 1440p 144hz monitor or a 3440x1440p ultrawide 144hz monitor. I think that will make more of a difference on the gaming experience than a couple extra frames on the very few games that can't run 144hz 1080p on the 2080 super.

*Edit* Also, your daughter is very lucky!

you can get a better cooler for that price. maybe the new ARCTIC LIQUID FREEZER 240

the motherboard is really expensive, but if you want it thats cool. there are definitely cheaper options.

I agree with you as you should definitely get a gold rated PSU.

Finally, if your kiddo want to sync all the rgb they can use jacket rgb sync for the corsair fans.

Do you have any suggestions as to what I should get for a monitor? Looking for the cheapest option with the optimal specs to run this build as it should run.I don't want it to be a bottleneck.

The gold is more energy efficient and usually last longer.

Just as a word of caution, when your doing anything this expensive you really need to communicate with your daughter for her use case or have the option for a refund open. You don't really want to be giving something like this for someone who dosen't game or use Logic Pro X or something, but other than that there are a couple things you could swap out. I just eyeballed your prices so this is somewhere in the ballpark and probably a bit better

The difference between a "gold" power supply and "bronze" is the efficiency. Gold draws less power and uses better components than bronze.

it's just more power efficient. it doesn't make it any better quality than another PSU with a better efficiency rating.

I would check out rtings list of the best monitors: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/by-usage/gaming

I personally like IPS displays with at least 350 nits of brightness.

Shes 19 loves gaming and is taking computer science or something like that in collage next year.

She had a list of parts she wanted for her own build, but it was a couple years old and I can't let her roll like that. So I am playing Xibit here and pimping out her PC build.

If you already know than thats fantastic. I just keep seeing people who are misinformed just throw money at something like this for it too work. Your a great dad for doing something like this. Like another idea might be planning and building this with your daughter instead of it being a surprise because IMO if i'm dropping 3k on a PC it better be perfect aesthetically

We plan on building it together xmas morning. It's a good thing I asked here now as it gives me time to order a better PSU and monitor.

I will just use the leftovers to build myself a budget build, as i blew the budget on this one lol.

We did sit down and use PC builder together but I've made a couple changes.

Get a 1440p 144hz monitor, I think she'll appreciate the extra screen real estate when it comes to programming.

And if you're going for a 2080(Ti or non-Ti) it would happily run 1440p no problem for pretty much any game tbh
