Is my first time build good enough?

so get one stick of ram 8gb?

Yup mate spot on that's what I'm running no problems and if you need 16gb down the road buy another stick of 8gb and bam dual channel also saves yourself from being limited in upgrading because you can still fit another 8gb on any board out there

Are you limited to only Amazon or are you open to other US shops?

Ok thanks, will do in future. (new to all this)

but no i don't necessarily have to get them parts from amazon, but I'm from Northern Ireland so im limited to the shops/stores i can purchase from.

Why not shop from Irish shops online?

Have you asked yourself what it is you want from this computer?  I am just curious as to what this pc is intended to be used for?  As for choosing an Asus brand motherboard there is nothing wrong with that and with the one you selected I have seen many good reviews on it but could you go cheaper and still get a very nice board fully featured?  Yes.  Still though it would be nice to know again what you are using this pc for?

Well i want to be able to game at max settings, if i can do that then that's a start.  I would then like to do video editing and also some art programmes (whatever they may be), but I'm a trainee Architect an some of them programmes take quite a bit to run.

I don't know any, plus they will all be euros. I'm from the UK so i will have to google some shops in round the UK but I'm pretty sure amazon holds some of the best deals for tech!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/ is technically the official amazon site for Ireland.

There's also komplett: http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/site/KomplettHome.aspx

and Dabs that I know of: http://www.dabs.ie/

Are these good for you?

On first glance they look like good websites, but like i said they're irish websites working with euros and what not. I need websites with (.co.uk) as Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom not Ireland.

Oh. In that case, you should probably add Northern Ireland to the location in your profile. It would clear up confusions in the future.

So what's your budget?

I would reconsider the case, and get a faster HDD. I'd also get some Corsair, Kingston, or Mushkin RAM rather than G Skill.

Specs are on my profile page

Rough budget please before people start throwing quad 780 Ti's and 1TB ssd's at you?

What do you think of this case? Corsair Carbide 500R Micro ATX Midi Tower White

It's... okay. There are better cases for the price. Then again, I'm not really don't of the style and prefer the 300r or 200r myself.

Around £1,200/1,400. I won't be buying all the parts at once either maybe one at a time.

As for the case I'm not 100% set on any case would just like a white one so i can add blue leds!

It's better to buy all your parts at once instead of over time so you can test if the parts if they are defective/doz and return them if they are before it's too late and you also get a better bang for your buck.

How's this look? http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2QdfB

I have decided to swap to the phantom 410 as that case looks cool an the dimensions are just right.  You have been a great help thank you.

I like the recommendation on him getting a faster hard drive but also I'd scrap the SSD. It is taking away money that op could just hold onto or keep him from spending on a better video card or 2nd video card.  As for ram it is ram these days.  Whatever he gets should be fine.

Well max settings can mean different things to different people.  I would scrap the SSD entirely if it meant getting a better video card or another video card.  You mention gaming first and well an SSD doesn't add anything other than loading some cg vids faster.

Max settings are max settings... I don't see how it can mean different things to different people.

A ssd makes a world of difference in the smoothness and snappiness in terms of usability of the system. It sounds like you haven't used a ssd before.

I don't plan on using an SSD cuz they are not needed.  My pc is snappy enough.  As for max settings well if you have Nvidia you can play some games with physX on and so max settings to me are that and not what others might view as max settings.

... and well ... I will say it again ..

SSD is hardly a purchase for a rig that is meant for gaming

I know i mentioned gaming first but that was just to give people a rough idea on how well i want it to work! when i comes to it i will probably be editing/designing a lot more than gaming.

Have you ever spent any time using a rig properly equipped with an SSD?

You write to them they die.  I also don't shut off my pc so don't need one.  I know what the performance of an SSD is.  Also for a gaming rig it is not needed.  I am allowed to hate them.

Moderns ssd's should last longer than you need them to for everyday usage. http://us.hardware.info/reviews/4178/10/hardwareinfo-tests-lifespan-of-samsung-ssd-840-250gb-tlc-ssd-updated-with-final-conclusion-final-update-20-6-2013

I take it that is a no, you have never used a system with an ssd.

Good enough! Thats amazing! But I would get a WD Blue not a green because the Green has really no benefit and is super slow

I agree, the parts are well sorted out except for the HDD.
