250 watt GeForce GTX 1650

so i'm looking to updating my grachics card and i'm wondering if my pc with 250 watt will be able to have a GeForce GTX 1650 4GT Low profile put in it and if it will work.. btw i currently have a gefore GTX 1050 low profile

Hello @afmn03 and Welcome to the Linus Tech Tips Forum.

 

Even though a config using a GPU like that one wouldn't consume something near 250w(depending on what your config is, so please list it) i wouldn't recommend using that PSU unless it's a decent PSU. Otherwise you'd need to buy a new one.

@GabrielLP14 i think it's called HP - POWER SUPPLY 250W ATX... btw i have had my pc for a year now and it have not explode yet.

Still, not good psu. You gpu will run with it since it uses under 75W, but your psu really sucks so it can explode really any moment

I'd definitely change that PSU. Try getting a CX 550w. Or even a CX-450w

GTX 1050 consumes up to 75w from 12v

GTX 1650 consumes up to 80w from 12v

 

If the computer ran fine with GTX 1050, it will run fine with GTX 1650

Please, do not use that psu, i had 240w chinese psu, adn yes it exploded after 3 years. You do not want that, since your insurance wears of if adding other gpu.

If it's HP , it's probably a gold efficiency 250w power supply, from a decent OEM like Delta or AcBel.

It's not a shit chinese power supply.

You could argue the components inside a VS 550 are of lower quality than what's inside that 250w psu.

 

Like I said, if you just need to power a GTX 1650, then your current PSU will be enough.

 

Keep in mind that your motherboard may have a custom power connector, so you may not be able to use standard ATX power supplies on it.

Double check first that your power supply has the standard 20+4 or 24 pin ATX connector and that you can fit standard ATX or SFX power supplies in your case.

 

If the psu is custom size, you'd have to replace the case as well, in which case you may just as well go with a normal size video card like RX 570 / 580 which has more performance per dollar.

 

And stop using big fonts, it doesn't make ppl answer faster, it's only annoying.

i agree had it happen to me on a old Pentium dual core system i used to have it blew everything except the fans ram and CPU and it weakened the GPU...

☝️This, GTX 1650 LP doesn't have any external power connector so it only need <=75w from mainboard which is similar power consumption to your current GTX 1050 LP.
