Should I give up on Windows HDR?

My HDR TV works great with my PS4 Pro but I want to game on my Vega 56 and I've tried HDMI 2.0 cables and an HDMI 2.0 and a DP 1.4 adapter and it just doesn't seem to want to turn on in Windows.

When I got my 4K HDR tv, there was some settings I had to mess with in the TV menu to get Windows to activate HDR10 (not that I have HDR or 4k content on hand, of course

).

 

Don't really have any other HDR compatible devices to test with though. My graphics card is an Nvidia GTX 960, so I'd wager most HDR enabled games are probably beyond it's reach as well.

I bought a HDR monitor only to find out my laptop doesn't have this voltage control thingy even though the GPU technically supports it, but the manufacturer didn't put that in. After I got in touch with Intel support that was the conclusion we came up with, told me to go talk to Asus to confirm this, but at this point I wasted enough time on it, might just be a simple problem in your case, I'd keep digging

not sure what tv you got but...a few different things can be stopping you

if the tv doesnt detect its connected to a computer then it needs to be set as game mode

the hdmi on the tv needs to be set as uhd

some tvs are specific onto what hdmi you use for hdr content

hdmi 2.0 can only do 4k hdr 444 8bit 60htz or 4k hdr 422 10bit 60htz (barely) or 4k hdr 444 or 422 10bit 30htz (this is with a good cable and not over 6ft in length over 6ft can cause signal issues) any setting off will disable hdr

also windows hdr looks like crap. only when video or a game is run does it look good (windows fault)

so it can be both settings in the tv and the comp causing you issues

I tested HDR with Assassin's Creed Odyssey and a LG B9.

It worked but the Windows HDR is not good on it and it gave me a headache.

It also switched off G-sync so I had to use vsync. 

I will be leaving it off for now.

 

I also have a LG HDR monitor and the standard OLED image is comparable to monitors HDR image in games so I won't be unhappy.
