Build complete only need a GPU

Robin_Code

Hi,

So here's my new build that I'm going to order next week. This build is strictly for playing World of Warcraft.

image.thumb.png.fca2c133d353ba3bb33e116d5d33cac5.png

Question

What GPU do I need to play Battle for Azeroth at 1440p in any given situation.

The goal is to spend as little money as possible (Arena, 24 man raids, a big city etc).

Also

If you see any errors in my build or recommend other parts, please let me know which and why.

Keep in mind that my goal here is to spend as little as possible to achieve comfortable 1440P in World of Warcraft.

Don't get the A-Pro X570 it's pretty bad, get the MSI B450 A-Pro MAX instead (it's Ryzen 3xxx ready).

That case doesn't allow a lot of airflow so I'd recommend the Cooler Master MB511 RGB instead.

For the GPU the entry level point for 1440p is with a 5700XT (Pulse or Gigabyte Gaming OC) or the 2070S NVidia side (Gigabyte Gaming OC is also usually on the cheap side and good).

1440p Ultra? Medium?

60fps? 144fps?

https://nl.hardware.info/artikel/8701/world-of-warcraft-battle-for-azeroth-review-for-the-framerates#benchmarks-wqhd-2560x1440

Looks like you need a GTX 1650/RX 560 or better for 1440p Medium 60fps, or RX 570/GTX 1660 or so or better for 1440p Medium 144fps

Or at Ultra 60fps you need basically a 2080 Super/Ti.

That is of course only Medium fps. minimum will be a bit different.

The main goal is to play 1440P on ulta.

I hope to play (on average 70 FPS or above).

Can you not buy the second worst X570 motherboard of all when there are much better B450 boards that are actually cheaper like the Tomahawk?

If I were you I'd go for a gtx 1660super or rx590.

If your budget can handle it a 1070ti (can probably find some cheap ones used), 2060 super or 5700 will be ideal for 1440p.

Thanks guys,

I truly appreciate the advice.

Decided to change the board for a Tomahawk like mentioned. I really love the case so I'm too stubborn to change it.

Perhaps I could spend some extra and buy a decent Noctua.

If I made more mistakes, please let me know!

Judging by that benchmark (which is coming from a reputable reviewer, from a review last year), you would need a serious GPU to get those numbers.. But that is Ultra - max settings. Often High settings will look just as good and play a lot nicer.

That is also evident by the fact that they get 4 times the fps by going from Ultra to Medium.. This must be a GTA V launch situation where 'Advanced Grass Settings' also lowered the benchmark results considerably, but still not looking much better.

I would have to agree with the RTX 2060 Super/RX 5700 (XT) or 2070 Super.

Something like the hyper 212 black edition or cryorig h7 are cheap but still better than the hyper 212 evo. Could be a good middle ground.

Rule #1 broken

Pick monitor first then find GPU to drive it.

i5 8600 - RX580 - Fractal Nano S - 1080p 144Hz
