Yeah I’ve been leaning towards the monitor and SSD. Il also have a read up on the best settings to run as I haven’t really changed anything since buying the PC. Well as I said I don’t have a great deal of knowledge on the subject and I wanted to make sure I spend my money in the right areas. Thanks for your time mate appreciate it

Btw I didn’t mean I’d go for both the GPU and CPU, I wasn’t sure if they seemed pretty balanced? or if I’m not getting the best out of one or the other..

You don’t have to get the best out of something to have it be value for money. If it’s delivering the experience you want and you can afford it then a synthetic benchmark’s bottleneck doesn’t matter much. Actually even a 10% bottleneck of a GPU would still likely deliver significant improvements over the next GPU down in a series.

People worry far too much about bottlenecks when they should be worrying about the actual experience they get.

Mu advice is always to decide on the monitor first and then spec the system around driving that for the games you want to play.

funnily enough, i've never built one of my own computers myself unfortunately - i've built computers for friends, family, and otherwise, but when it comes to my own personal computers, in the past my dad has always helped me pay for the parts and refused to let me build it myself - we'd have it built either by a local computer shop or a friend - that's finally gonna change this time around.

my first custom built computer though, albeit i didn't build it myself, was quite the beast. it used a Core i5-2500k which i had overclocked to a nice stable 4.6GHz while being cooled by a Corsair h100i, had 8GB of DDR3@1866MHz (hah, i remember how that felt like so much at the time and now its practically nothing - my current laptop has 12GB of DDR4, and it was a pretty budget one, lol) a Radeon HD 6970, and a couple mechanical hard drives which i still use to this day. i don't really recall what the motherboard was, unfortunately, but i'm pretty sure it was decidedly budget. i do recall that i was using the first edition white NZXT Phantom. unfortunately even after combing through the pictures on my old facebook (yeesh that didn't feel good lmao) i couldn't find a picture of it. wasn't really anything to be proud of though, anyways.

but, yeah - i'm planning to do my next computer build, which like i said will be the first computer of my own i've built myself, as soon as possible, by january at the latest, because not only do i really need an upgrade at this point but also the motherboard and cpu seem to be dying unfortunately. so i'll be taking the GPU, storage, and PSU out of my current rig (two 950 evos, several mechanical hard drives of varying sizes, a 970 evo M.2, a PNY GTX 1080 Ti, and a EVGA 1200w P2 PSU) and putting it together with the following:

Apevia-Aura-F-PK Case (i really just want a pink case and i don't really have the skills to paint another case on my own)

Asus Prime X570-P Motherboard

AMD Ryzen R9 3950X

Noctua NH-D15 Chromax Black edition

G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600

additionally i'm planning on getting some pink LED case fans to put in there, a Quartz Pink edition Razer Seiren X, Basilisk, Extended Goliathus, and BlackWidow TE Chroma V2 to round out the whole aesthetic i'm going for.

This was my christmas gift in 2004, complete with HL2 ready to go. All I can remember is it had a Pentium 4, an Nvidia 6800 (possibly the LE), and I'd guess 4GB of RAM. Ohh, and an 80GB hard drive ?

As for current upgrades I only really need some new case fans and bigger HDDs, perfect timing with the deals coming tomorrow ?

My parents' first system (bought a few months before I turned 8), and the first system I used at home, was:

My own first PC I built (I had a TI-92 Plus graphing calculator in high school before this, and still have it, but I don't think it counts) was:

As for my next planned upgrade ... I'll probably later edit the post with more details (or reply to the thread again if others have posted after me), when I can type on my actual PC keyboard rather than on my phone, but in brief, it would likely be when AM5/TR5 (99.999999999999999999999999999999999999% NOT going Intel this time), PCI Express 5.0, USB 4 and DDR5 come out, or around Black Friday 2021 or so.  I'll want a huge performance jump (in workstation / editing tasks especially - minimum being like my dad's 286-10 to 486DX4-120 bump), lots of expandability (I have like a few dozen 3.5" HDDs and do NOT want rackmount for now), long-term future compatibility so I can henceforth upgrade my system ONE PART AT A TIME - for example not having to swap my motherboard so often just to upgrade CPU or RAM (Basically:  How_Long_To_Keep_Motherboard > Labor_Time_To_Swap_Fully_Loaded_Motherboard × (How_Long_Until_Babied_Golden_Sample_Seasonic_Prime_PSU_Dies_Of_Old_Age ÷ Labor_Time_To_Swap_Fully_Modular_Cable_Compatible_PSU), etc.

For example on the motherboard time-to-keep:  If the PSU lasts 2 years and takes 1 minute to swap, and the motherboard takes 5 minutes to swap, then the motherboard should last 10 years.  (BTW I plugged in much different numbers than normal - for example a PSU dying during warranty would be considered "infant mortality".)  Plugging the numbers into the formula:

10 Yrs = 5 Min * (2 Yrs / 1 Min)

if I did it right.  Substitute for the actual real-life numbers.  Same or similar formula would apply for case replacement.

My first PC that I built myself is from late 2017. Before that I have had a couple of pre-built PC's and a 2009 Asus laptop. It has about the same specs as I do now, except that it was in a much older case.IMG_20181219_212145.thumb.jpg.52de7d8f49e6bc407d9a0aef81c90774.jpg

Overall my setup has not changed much. I still have the same monitor, pedals, mouse, controller, speaker and mousepad. I've made small upgrades to the rig, like more ram, faster storage and a newer case with better cable management options. The picture was taken just after I had moved to a new apartment. Next up is upgrading the GPU and even more ram.

My stuff:

Spoiler

CPU :  Intel i5 8400 | GPU : MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4GB

RAM : 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 @ 3600MHz

Mouse : Logitech G502 HERO SE | Keyboard : Mountain Everest Max w/ Cherry MX Brown

Headset : Beyerdynamics DT990 Pro 250Ω w/ AT2020USB+

Monitor : Acer XF240H @  144Hz
