upgrading from i5 8400 is this a good option? budget max £200. title says it all really

also on CPU user benchmark it ranks 11th and i5 8400 ranks 65th ISH.

Why are you upgrading? there's really not a whole lot of performance to be gained here.

Please make sure you're looking at meaningful metrics for CPU performance.  A ranking that sorts all known CPUs by some arbitrary metric, along with userbenchmark's arbitrary metric itself, are completely worthless at best and terribly misleading at worst.  Check for single-threaded and multi-threaded performance comparisons, and how different CPUs handle the specific games and applications you want to run.

pay a bit more for a 3600, i wouldn't use a 9600k for a new build in 2019/20

It is literally a i5-9600K without the iGPU.

Going from the i5-8400 to a i5-9600KF, and the performance jump is from the 2.8GHz/4.00GHz to 3.7GHz/4.6GHz frequency boost.

 

By the way, what motherboard are you using?

It's more of a sidegrade and depending on what you're doing with your pc will probably net you close to zero performance improvements.

its like, why did you buy to begin with if you're just going to upgrade it to the same exact chip that's simply unlocked and no igpu
