Latency vs. speed for Ryzen? 3600X vs. overclock?

hjvt

The sticks you've listed are both not good, not only because of the speed/timings combination, but also that Ripjaws V heatsink is worthless (doesn't touch the chips on the side, and in the middle, runs hot overall), but tallish at the same time (limited cooler compatibility). A few positive things about them is that's G.Skill and they have a built-in thermal sensor.

For Zen 2 I'd recommend Micron E-die (if you are on a budget): https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/ballistix-sport-lt-rot-16gb-ddr4-kit-2x8gb-ram

3000 CL15 or 3200CL16 (AES), it can be manually OC-d to 3600 tight timings.

Not 3000CL16, etc.

Or something like https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/patriot-viper-steel-16gb-ddr4-kit-2x8gb-ram

you could use them as is, or downclock with tighter timing/overclock a bit, if you are lucky.

The PSU you've picked is good. 3600 (non-X) and a higher-end board is a better option, since Zen2 prices will fall quite soon. I'd even consider to buy a cheap Zen+ instead and upgrade later (like 2600/2700).

Btw, Buildzoid has a great recent video on youtube explaining all about RAM in every price range and size combination, look it up.

And on the side, are be quiet! PSUs any good? I'm looking at something like this Pure Power 11 CM 80+ Gold 600W.

decent, but you should get rmx 550w or rmx 650w from corsair instead, even cx550w.

and between R5 3600 + higher end mobo vs R5 3600X + something B450 based.

r5 3600x (has better stock cooler than 3600 and 5% better performance) and msi b450 tomahawk max (has already bios updated to 3rd gen ryzen support, u do not need to nios update it yourself)

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

Huh, when I was asking for GPU recommendations on reddit and had Corsair Vengeance LPX as a stand-in RAM based purely off the pricing, I was told to pick some decent ram and given a link to Ripjaws V.

I plan to switch to AIO later on, when i'll be picking up RX5700XT, so I don't care too much about stock cooler.

CX550 seems to only have 80+ Bronze and RM550X is well, 10eur more for less power.

I achsually own a kit of Ripjaws V 3200CL14, so speaking from experience here)

Btw, for a 3200CL16 "garbage bin" Corsair LPX is a great choice, if there is a sale/good price. Basically, for 3200CL16 you can buy any DRAM, based on its price and looks.

I have a bunch of LPX, too, it is not a bad RAM. The fact that Corsair makes DDR4 5000 MHz sticks in this line kind of confirms it.
