ASUS MOBO for i9 9900k

Chizhek

Hello

I am looking for motherboard for my i9 9900k. I am looking between ASUS MAXIMUS XI HERO WIFI and Asus ROG Strix E-gaming/F-gaming(must check what is the difference between those 2...if you know pls let me know). MOBO must be Asus because i want it to sync RGB with my graphics card. Soo what are you suggestions and what are the difference between those 2 types of motherboards and is it worth those 100€ more to pay...?

thanks for your answers

Asus: Maximus XI extreme, Maximus X extreme, Rampage VI Apex, Rampage VI, Maximus XI Gene, Maximus X Apex, Maximus XI Apex

Tier A High-end gaming (i5oc, i7oc, i9oc)

No Asus there.

Tier B Mainstream gaming (i5oc, i7oc)

Asus: zxxx-Strix, x299-strix, Maximus XI Formula/Hero/Code, Maximus X Formula/Hero/Code, zxxx-Prime-A, X299-TUF, X299-Prime Deluxe

You should go Tier S but they must be expensive I suppose.

I use Hero X and Hero IX boards and I would not get a Hero XI board for a i9 9900k. If you really need to go ASUS, only the Hero is adequate for the i9 9900k overclocked.

Those are pretty much garbage for the asking price.

Get the cheapest Aorus Z390 and call it a day.

Tier S is a bit too expensive....looking for something for max 300€ maybe few € more but thats it. Now i have ASRock Z390 Taichi and it worked perfectly with i7 9700k but i kinda feel that its not ok for i9 9900k.

The AsRock Taichi Z390 is a superior board to the Maximums Hero XI in every way.

The Taichi can handle the 9900K and what @Princess Luna said.

I know I can use the RGB Fusion for my Corsair rams so maybe you can use the RGB Fusion for the Asus GPU ? (to be confirmed)

Gigabyte offers you two ways to set up RGB, through BIOS or through their RGB Fusion Software.

The software may not be the best ever made but the BIOS works pretty flawlessly... if anything any Aorus board has superior power phasing and VRM to those that you can find on the Maximums Hero XI but now that we know you have a Taichi then this whole thread is pointless, just use that.

I dont know why than PC since installing i9 9900k feels like its lagging...if i put i7 9700k back it kinda feels more smooth. Tryed everything and it is lagging just with i9(i tryed it on other pc and it is working perfectly)....when i bought PC i didnt want any shitty components just because of that i knew that i would upgrade on i9 and the ASRock is the only component i didnt fully trust

What do you mean lagging? are you using the same windows install? your problem is not the motherboard so this is more likely an issue with the OS not being able to adapt itself to the new CPU.

Besides did you really need to buy a 9900K when having a 9700K? Why not at least wait for 10nm?

I basically got the deal that i sold the i7 and bought new i9 for the same money soo that the reason i changed the CPU

I reinstalled the windows and everything but when i turn on the pc and move my mouse on the desktop and do that blue squares it sometimes like lagg(stuttering....even when i release the mouse button that blue square stays there for 0.5-1s. When i open some folder on my M2 disk it needs longer to open it and stuff like that

even some games are lagging sometimes(When i play LoL normally the 1st game would work perfectly but the second one in in most cases already a problem and ingame fps are over 250 but it looks like and fells like i have 15-20 FPS. Same is with the game World of Tanks and with the PUBG which is newer and you need much better PC for it it works perfectly

They are older versions.

The IX is a Z170 board that came out in 2016. I used for my i7 6700k.

The X is a Z370 board the came out in 2017 and I use them for my 6 core CPUs.

Their VRMs were adequate for the CPUs of the day but even the Hero X came with a VRM fan bracket.

The 8 core changed things.

The problem is heat over time. On a bench or in a high flow case it probably doesn't matter but for a "pretty" build in a glassed in case it might.

The i7 9700k needs to be clamped in some games to stay smooth. Even RDR2 is having the problem.

This is a known issue and there are workarounds.

I can understand why you would want to dump it.

I dumped my i7 8700k because it could not reach 5ghz and it bugged me every day I used it.

I think heat wont be a problem. I have CORSAIR H115i PLATINUM and 2x CORSAIR LL140 on the top side plus one 120mm fan on the back side of the case and i have FD mashify s2
