Upgrade from i5 6500 help please

Hello All

1st time poster here. I have a i5 6500 that is starting to slow with some AAA titles like Assassins creed Odyssey and BL3 and other titles. I want to upgrade to a 3700x or a i7 9700k. I live close to a micro center and they have both CPU's for $299 and $30 off a mother board. Let me know what everyone would do. I7 has better gaming but 3700x is better at multi tasking and i don't have to get a cooler. i am a heavy user and like to do many things at once while gaming. I play only at 1080p and just need 60fps. I'm aware my 1060 will hold me back there and plan to upgrade in the future.Check out  my build below. Thanks for your help.

What is cheaper to you. But personally would get that 3700x for futureproof .

Motherboard tier list. Tier A for overclocking 5950x. Tier B for overclocking 5900x, Tier C for overclocking 5800X. Tier D for overclocking 5600X. Tier F for 4/6 core Cpus at stock. Tier E avoid.

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

( You can overclock Tier C just fine, but it can get very loud, that is why it is not recommended for overclocking, same with tier D)

3700X for sure, the single core(Gaming) performance isn't as far off from intel as people think and the added benefit of of the better multi core(Workstation) performance is a huge plus. One of my personal gripes with 9th gen intel with the i5's an i7's is the lack of hyperthreading, you'd be better off picking up an 8700k over a 9700k in my opinion, an overclocked 8700k can match the 9700k in performance even beat it in multi core related workloads for cheaper. But out of the two the 3700X would be my go to.

Get 3700x and a good sub $200 or $300 am4 x570 motherboard then wait 2 years later upgrade to 3900x or 3950x if need to. 3900x price will drop down to 400 or 300 after 2 years for 12c/24t. 3950x might drop down to 700 after 2 years but not sure though.

If you could've just used the same motherboard I would've said go for the 9700K, but since Intel limited compatibility despite it using the same socket, I think the better choice would be the 3700X.

The difference in multi-core workloads in favour of the 8700K isn't necessarily true, unless you overclock it and compare it to a stock 9700K, which isn't really fair. Also, 8C/8T is superior, I'd say, compared to 6C/12T, as it will completely eliminate the potential of latency/performance issues (though it wouldn't be the case with a GTX 1060) and security flaws that could be caused by hyper-threading. That being said, it is true that day to day performance between the two is pretty much identical in most cases, though I'm pretty sure that 8700Ks don't go for that much cheaper (if at all) than the 9700K, so I wouldn't personally call it a better purchase.

Thanks everyone for help. I ended up going with the 3800x. Shuttering problems are gone and it’s so fast. It was only $30 more then the 3700x. CPU usage on Bl3 is around 20%. Next will be a gpu upgrade.
