Games aren't really issue here. I have pretty good main PC. I would like to turn this into multimedia computer hooked up to a tv. I'm probably going to install linux on it anyway.

As to a budget it doesn't really matter.

Well, for a multimedia PC, you really don't need something all that powerful. I'd get a Core 2 Quad, and 8GB of RAM. I personally never built a multimedia PC, but it should be more than enough. I'd probably get a low power graphics card, though, someting like a GT 710, or a GT 1030, if you need more graphical power, for some reason.

I want to give new life to my first PC. Currently I have these components:

Mobo : asus p5e-vm-do (socket lga755)

Ram: 2 GB

GPU:  Radeon 6850 cyclone power edition

CPU: core 2 duo 7600

I'm planning to upgrade cpu and ram. My biggest problem is that I don't know much about cpus from that era. What would be the best choice from that list:

Maybe someone here knows what would be the best choice for that mobo?
