This morning when I booted my PC I was met with all my RGB set to rainbow vomit mode.

I tried to open the Aura application and I was greeted with "Asus Aura Has Stopped Working"

I've tried uninstalling with revo, registry clean with ccleaner and reinstalling as admin and the problem still persists.

I've contacted Asus support as well as made a post on their forums but they've been absolutely worthless (as per usual)

Anyone have any experience or advice?

Thanks ❤️

My specs are:

  • Windows 10 (latest version)
  • Asus Maximus IX Hero (latest bios)
  • 7700k delid
  • 2x8gb gskill 3200mhz
  • Asus GTX 1080Ti Strix
  • Samsung 960 Evo

I have no idea. I've been having an issue with my Strix B350-F where anything that moves or changes constantly freezes for a split second and it's really annoying. This is with the computer at idle...

Sorry I don't know anything about this though, I've never heard of it. Do you normally keep your RGB just off or on like a less distracting/annoying mode like breathing? If you keep it off all the time, you could unplug all the headers. Although then there is still the lights on the motherboard and RAM, if you have RGB memory.

Have you checked to see if a BIOS update is available?  Sounds like you've already exhausted pretty much everything else.  Perhaps a Windows reinstall is in order?

I've had nothing but headaches with Aura.

You can try manually starting/restarting the Aura "LightingService" service through the Windows "Services" app, just right click and select start/restart. Sometimes Aura fails because the service didn't launch at startup. I have no idea why this happens.

If this works for you can go back into Services, right click on "LightingService", go to properties, go to the "Recovery" tab and set it to try to restart on failures.

Otherwise you can try the Asus Aura cleaner tool which can be found on this thread:

https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?95070-AURA-V1-05-16-Report-all-isues-in-this-thread/page11

It's a few comments down.

I typically do the following:

  1. uninstall normally
  2. restart
  3. use the cleaner tool, delete any Aura folders/files in the Asus folder under Progam Files/Program Data etc.
  4. restart
  5. reinstall
  6. restart

Assuming something else didn't break Aura this usually fixes it for me.

  • 2 weeks later...

I know this is an old thread but did you get it fixed? I've just had the same problem and found this video that fixed it for me. It was due to a folder that keeps your old aura profile after uninstalling aura itself. If you haven't got it fixed, here's a link to the vid:

Also, uninstall all the software he says first before deleting the lighting service folder.
