DSLR Output is 1080i.... Can I use this with a capture card?

Skipple

Hi guys,

I am looking to use my DLSR output as my streaming camera.

If I get a capture card that supports 1080p... Can I use my DLSR to output to this or will scan lines make it look like crap?

ask me about my homelab

on a personal quest convincing the general public to return to the glory that is 12" laptops.

cheap and easy cable management is my fetish.

Someone locally is selling a Elgato HD Capture for $25.

No, this will just be going from my Nikon D5100 to the capture card.

I found a hacked firmware for my camera that allows it to send source video via HDMI but only at 1080i... I was concerned that a capture card processing 1080p would cause scan lines on the video output.

My old man has been into video capturing for a long time, I don't know about scan lines.  Remember the grunt of the work is done by the capture card.  Your video card is just there to show you the image and your app.  Hope this sorta makes sense.

any card that can capture 1080p should be able to Drop down to natively capture 1080i. this is not a situation where a capture card will only capture one format or the other its more often that they are stating which format is the max it can capture.

That depends on what the camera actually outputs, if its the 2 halves of a single frame it will be ok, but if it's actually interlaced and the 2 fields were captured at different times you'll need to run it through a deinterlacing filter.
