Hello LTT Forums:

Recently, I've been aware of the Star Citizen group LTT Conglomerate, and when I had went to pick up a copy of the game, I was befuddled.

I understand that it is a space simulator, and that the ships include the game with it (in certain cases) but is it out in Alpha yet? If not, then I think I am going to save up for the Constellation, or whatever ridiculously overpriced ships they have available. Follow up question about the ships, does anyone know how the ships will work? Let's say I do buy a constellation for the game, what happens if someone takes my ship? Can they take it whilst me being offline? If so, then will I ever get my ship back?

If these are the case, then I might just go for the cheapest ship available and just join the PvP team and loot a constellation off of some other people who have more money than I.

Anyways, the point of this thread is to see if somebody can explain the purpose of the game for those who do not know already, sort of like myself. It would be better than stickying a thread for a game, that doesn't even mention Star Citizen anywhere but in the comments :P

Just some extra thoughts: What do you all think about the game? Excited? Over-hyped? Too Graphic Demanding? Not good enough graphics?

Let me know what you think! :D

If you're a supporter you'll likely get more with your higher end contribution.

The game isn't going to release fully until 2015 I believe.

Some of the ships are over $1,000...so going for the most expensive one is a little expensive for a video game.

I was stoked still am.

However, their stretch goals have gotten pretty...lame. New systems over and over again?
Where are new ships?

To answer your questions:

No, it's not released yet. It will be in 2015 roughly.

You'll fly them. You can let others borrow them. People can steal them (pirates). You can lock them in your hangar (people can't steal them). There is insurance in the game. If your ship is destroyed or lost/stolen, you can get another one with that. It has a time delay though. Like real life. If you don't have insurance, you have to pay full (in-game money) price for a new one. Not real money. In-game money.

During that delay, there are other things you can do (fly someone else's ship for them, or something similar). Rentals will probably be a "thing".

Me too :D

You have insurance so if your ship is destroyed your insurance will over it but if you have not insurance then your out of a ship and time to buy a new one.

That's really reassuring. More beneficial for them to make money, and being able to sleep at night without worrying about your hundred-dollar ship being destroyed w/o reimbursement.

Fully? Or the Alpha?

Hopefully by this time, 4k will be relevant, and it will be able to run it.

Fully

Alpha starts in March-April (Dogfighter Module + Planetside/Social Module) of this year (2 months from now).

Can't wait. I'll try to buy it before then so I can experience the game from the start. Sounds like something that would be fun, to play a game from launch day of Alpha, to day one of the the full release. It's really a beautiful process. ^-^

Wait for release. I honestly don't get why people are spending such ridiculous amounts of money on a game that up until this point fails to impress beyond its graphics. Furthermore, I think people grossly overestimate the scale of this game. For them to ask such amounts ( well beyond the cost of an average AAA game, and this game does not have AAA production value ) for items that will likely be spent/obsolete later in the games lifespan is just criminally audacious, and that speaks more to the idiocy of the people who've spent hundreds or more already. Frankly, I wish I could be apart of this scam from the inside.

My estimation, unjustifiably hyped. It doesn't mean that I don't hold out hope that the game will be worthy of critical acclaim and my approval.

It's one of the first massively crowd funded games, so while I can see your hesitance we can only wait and see what actually comes of it. It very well might be one of the best games made.

They're only 10 million dollars away from what it cost to make the newer Call of Duty games, so while it's no where near the scope of a game like GTA V, they also don't have to render nearly as much.

It's space. You can't land on planets really, I imagine it'll be something like Freelancer where you "land on the planet" via a short video.

i'm not sure if you've ever played the Freelancer mod, but it's impressive to say the least. There are hundreds of ships to choose from, and they all have pros and cons. Smaller ships are great because the can outrun bigger ones. Sure, they don't carry the firepower but they don't have to. They have speed. I don't think ships will become obsolete as they all have their own roles.

There isn't much that they don't have production wise that any other large maker doesn't have. Most use smaller firms to make their games. It's not like they're using people that aren't talented, or computers that are grossly ill equipped.

Where they are hugely lacking is marketing. They've already made 40 million dollars, with largely $80 transactions. That's impressive.

Where they are hugely lacking is marketing.

As much as I hate referencing this game as to how broken it's been since beta, Minecraft was just like this. When it first started out in Alpha, nobody knew about it. There were maybe 10k other people playing it when I jumped aboard. As time went on, three years later look at it now. People from 5 years old to 80 are playing it, and it has millions of copies sold. What more could you want out of a game? Now that Star Citizen appears to have better graphics than any other game on the market right now, how could it not do better? There is nothing holding it back, and I see only great things coming out of it's future.

I doubt that I will ever actually purchase a multi-hundred dollar ship in Star Citizen; it's just sort of one of those pre-release hype type things. I will not purchase anything above what gives me access to Alpha and Beta (which I believe is a $40 ship?) for the time being, and maybe if this game does much better than I already expect it to, I'll invest some more money into it.

Star Citizen really and truly is a cool concept, and I hope that they can pull it off.

I think you should wait for the game to come out, and I doubt people can steal your ship if you lock it away in the hanger and then log off. If they can, pretty lame. lol

I want this game so badly because it will be the first game where I will feel like I'm in a universe like Star Wars, Firefly, Star Trek etc etc. And I have wanted a game like that...well, forever!
