Good day all,

I am looking for advice on as to if i should just upgrade my PC or build a new.  I currently have two computers in my office the one i'm asking about  and an older one my son games on (i can link information on it if anyone wants to know). If I upgrade he sticks with ol'reliable if I go new lucky kid seeing as how my girlfriend doesn't game ?(any tips on that to lol).

1. Budget & Location: My budget will be around $1,000 US and it can be stretched out over a few months i know black Friday is around the corner.

2. Aim: My aim is to step up in the gaming i really enjoy games such as ARK and would love to unlock the potential of the game. Also looking into ARMA 3 and games of that nature.

3. Monitors: I generally use 2 monitors both 27" 1080p 60Hz willing to upgrade if PC can handle it. I used to stream maybe will again but now just good old memory hungry Chrome up with music or such.

4. Peripherals: I may update a bit but not important currently using primarily a Razer Orbweaver and a Logitech G770s.

Current build:

You're kind of killing your CPU's performance with single channel RAM

not sure how much it really affects it though, someone probably tested it on youtube.

You can get windows keys for $5 on ebay.

You can probably just toss in an R5 3600, get new RAM, and upgrade the GPU to an RX 5700, don't know if the B350 board will limit memory overclocking

But if you just want a new system anyways, X570 boards are like $60 more

Maaybe a bit of a weird one but. Try to give the lego series a try with your girlfriend.

I am currently playing through lego: pirates of the caribbean with my SO: https://store.steampowered.com/app/311770/LEGO_Pirates_of_the_Caribbean_The_Video_Game/

You can play local co-op so connect your pc to your tv and off you go!

I recommend getting a few xbox controllers. If she has small hands get either the old xbox 360 one or more ideally a PS4. For my SO the controller for the XB1 that I use is too big and not comfortable. I don't know how well the PS4 one works with lego games but I know the xbox ones (both 360 and XB1 controller) are plug & play on PC.

If she doesn't like pirates of the caribbean, take a look at other games they have. They have stuff from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Marvel universe, DC Universe and more.

If you don't know where to start, I would recommend starting with Lego movie: the game (the first one, not the second one. The second game is imo crap).

And because it's lego, it's family friendly! (mostly, some are 7+) So not only can you and your SO enjoy it, your son can play them as well. :)

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

Honestly, for a 60hz panel, I'd say just leave it.

You could grab a 2600 to gain a little performance; they're only $115ish right now, so it'd be a cheap upgrade.

I'd also get dual channel, 3200mhz RAM. As @Streetguru said, you're murdering your performance there.

Really, I'd see if the 2600 comes in a motherboard combo, and grab 16GB of RAM for Black Friday. It'll make selling the 1600 easier.

You could grab an SSD, get a bit better performance there, but that's not really necessary.

Welcome to the forum.

You lose as much performance with single channel as you do going with a 2133mhz kit of RAM...so since this is basically both those issues, it's pretty bad.

The 5700 is massively overkill for a 60hz monitor.

If not then the RX 580 + R5 1600 is plenty for just 1080p 60hz.

Would want an R5 2600 + RX 5700 for 4k 60hz

R5 3600 for 100-144hz

Yes I have been thinking about that often when i built it the ram was the last thing i got right when my more or less extra income dried up. i am planning on getting ram for it soon though because if i build new It goes to the son and if i upgrade than its there.

Maybe even just sell it so both systems can end up with 16GB 3000/3200mhz RAM

That is the overall plan is to improve everything around the PC if i were to get the RX 5700 than i would get a monitor to support its capabilities.

If he's only gaming at 1080p 60hz that system is fine, just add like a 500GB SSD or something sometime

Just throw some emulators on her phone, namely animal crossing/The Sims if it can handle gamecube games
