Need a new phone

My mom's phone keeps dying. By that, I mean, she takes our old phones that we dont use, and somehow, they die, usually within a year or 2. These are not super old phones, but within the last few generations, within the last half decade.

 

So does anyone have any ideas on what phone I can get her, that there is no possible way she can brick it in a year? I'm hoping for something that can last at least 3 years before she should even think about a replacement.

 

Uses for this is mainly, talk, text (whatsapp), videos and gaming. I am looking for something that preferably has a good battery life, since she somehow either doesn't charge it or leaves it plugged in for days. she is the type of person to leave a game running for hours without even looking at it.

 

Something with a good value.

 

Anyone got any suggestions on a new phone for her?

Like what's you'd budget. A iPhone 11 would be my value pick as it has very long support and pretty easy to find a place to repair compared to the Chinese stuff.

i would rather not get iphone. just seems more annoying to use for her and me. she's used to the android eperience. changing to iphone means she will have to learn how the iphone is different. which means i have to learn how the iphone is different.

 

Budget wise though, hmm. not really sure. im thinking around 500 give or take. willing to go higher, if there is cause for it, like a bigger battery or something but i think that should hopefully be more than enough.

And impose battery saver mode when it gets to like 30%, to hopefully nag her to charge the thing or delay a complete discharge. Get her to use a regular charger and not a fast charger.

 

As for the phone, something like the Galaxy M30s should do very nicely. Avoid phones with pathetic 3000mAh batteries because those go through charge cycles much quicker (for a heavy user like your mom) and are more at risk of bottoming out.

 

shes using an lg gg5 right now. i see on amazon the m30 is 350, spec wise looks great in comparison! cost too.

Since the M30s is currently not available, I see the A70 for about 450 right now. do you think its worth it or is it too much?

That should withstand her bad battery behaviour for the required lifespan.  As mentioned, an app to limit usable range to 20 - 80% or even 30 - 70% that you slowly relax over time as needed would also help preserve the lifespan.

 

Edit damn looks like they cancelled it actually, nvm.  It would be glorious though...

imo i'd just get a phone with a replaceable battery, or just tell her to like tape a power bank to her case or something

honestly, I'm not sure. somehow every phone she gets ( second hand) it tends to die within a year. she's on her third lg g5 ( yes third of the same phone) and her last 2 phones, somehow, both phone and battery died roughly the same time. part of me suspects, virus or something in addition to hammering the phone with leaving it on max brightness and game for hours.

Get a new phone, Tell your mom to not keep maintaining the charge at 100 % always and only plug the phone in when the battery is below 20%. 

 

Or as others suggested get a thicc phone with big battery

Yea. I think I'll end up either getting the m30 or m30s if available. ill still consider the a70 if the price is nice.
